About the job Job summary Do you have a sound understanding of DVSA's roadside and enforcement activities and the regulatory frameworks for operators? Can you communicate clearly and confidently in both written and verbal formats, including handling challenging conversations? Working within the Remote Enforcement Office Bus Compliance team, to conduct a range of duties, ensuring that accurate and thorough assessments are completed, highlighting areas of concern across the Enforcement spectrum.

Working in a team of Enforcement professionals to support DVSA's aims to prevent, enable and respond, the role mainly involves conducting technical analysis of tachograph data, driver's hours information, compliance system assessments, and conducting tasks in relation to the national bus compliance schemes and light vehicle MOT testing scheme.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) helps keep Britain moving, safely and sustainably. We do this by helping people through a lifetime of safe and sustainable journeys, helping them keep their vehicles safe to drive, and protecting them from unsafe drivers and vehicles.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren't limited to:

  • Carry out assessments of operators, identifying compliance risks and areas for improvement
  • Coordinate and manage remote enforcement workflows, ensuring cases are progressed efficiently and effectively
  • Investigate intelligence, complaints and casework to determine appropriate action
  • Prepare high-quality evidence and reports to support enforcement outcomes, education, and advice
  • Support national bus compliance schemes through monitoring, case creation, and intervention activity
  • Deliver New Operator Seminars to educate and influence industry compliance
  • Work with a wide range of stakeholders including Traffic Commissioners, operators and local authorities
  • Manage workloads independently while balancing competing priorities and delivering at pace

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including handling challenging conversations
  • Knowledge of the transport industry
  • Sound understanding and knowledge of DVSA's roadside and enforcement activities and the regulatory frameworks for operators
  • Experience of Bus Operator account management (BOAM), Bus Service Operator Grants (BSOG), Bus Open Data Service (BODS), Public Service Vehicles Accessibility Regulations (PSVAR) and Accessible Information Regulations (AIR) schemes
  • Being a valuable team member, as well as the ability to work alone effectively
  • Flexibility in terms of working hours and adapting to changes in requirements
  • Ability to probe for information and gather further detail
  • Ability to pay particular attention to detail
  • Confident in the use of Microsoft programs, such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Power BI

Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements Full time roles consist of 37 hours per week. This role is suitable for hybrid working, which is a non-contractual arrangement where a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements. The expectation at present is a minimum of 60% of your working time a month will be spent at either your designated workplace or, when required for business reasons, in another office/work location/visiting stakeholders. Your designated workplace will be your contractual place of work. There may be occasions where you are required to attend above the minimum expectation. Extensive travel will be required, which may involve overnight stays.
