This is a varied and rewarding opportunity to lead the Driver Policy area at the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). DVSA helps keep Britain moving, safely and sustainably by helping people through a lifetime of safe and sustainable journeys, helping them keep their vehicles safe to drive, and protecting them from unsafe drivers and vehicles. The role is offered on a job-share basis, working 22.2 hours per week over three days.

Job description
The Head of Driver Policy provides policy leadership on DVSA's driver testing, compliance and enforcement services, advising senior leaders and translating policy into standards and guidance for operational and digital delivery. Your responsibilities will include, but aren't limited to:
- Lead and manage the G7 heads of driver policy, including the Approved Driving Instructor Registrar, Chief Driving Examiner, Economic Advisor and their teams.
- Oversee DVSA legislative and regulatory matters to ensure the Agency's interests are appropriately considered and delivered.
- Lead policy and legislative changes, including impact assessments, public consultations and ministerial reporting.
- Influence policy development at a senior departmental level and translate policy into operational and digital delivery requirements.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to future proof driver services and recommend changes to DVSA's strategy.
- Represent DVSA externally as a subject matter expert, including at networking events, conferences and exhibitions.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to the Director of Policy and Executive Committee on driver policy issues.
- Build effective relationships across DVSA, DfT, industry, customers and external bodies to support successful policy delivery.

Person specification
To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:
- Significant experience of leading the policy development process, including managing input from analytical, technical and legal experts to present policy recommendations.
- A demonstrable background in the development and delivery of policy objectives, standards and requirements, with evidence of leading strategic change.
- Significant experience of working collaboratively across team and organisational boundaries to build evidence-based policy and efficient, effective operational and digital services fit for the future.
- Proven aptitude for leadership, with an ability to build effective working relationships with teams and a wide range of stakeholders, creating space for constructive, open and transparent engagement and contributing to a culture of inclusion.
Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements
This job-share position is available for 22.2 hours per week, worked over three days. This role can be based in Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Newcastle, Nottingham, Swansea or Uxbridge. Your presence at one of the locations will form part of the working arrangements agreed with you. This role is suitable for hybrid working, and therefore a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements. Regular travel to London will be required, with occasional travel to other DVSA offices for team meetings and line management responsibilities.
