This role requires building reports and dashboards alongside analysis of data from DVSA's databases using Power BI and other tools. The post holder delivers data and information that supports the planning and decision-making process and provides insight to the business. The post holder collaborates with others to develop new regular reporting, run ad-hoc and existing reports, extracts data in accordance with user specifications and provides statistical information for publication and in response to freedom of information or subject access requests.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren't limited to:

  • Produces new, regular and ad-hoc reports and dashboards, liaising with customers to establish report content, format and timescale where required.
  • Delivers ad-hoc analysis. Ensures business value is added to DVSA data by analysing it and reporting it in the best way to meet customer needs. Produces accurate analysis which is easy to understand and provides guidance and insight to decision makers. Reports where possible on an exception basis only. Highlights any relevant trends and hotspots.
  • Undertakes quality assurance of reports and outputs where production is undertaken by other members of the team.
  • Provides appropriate responses to freedom of information requests and subject access requests within the guidance standards set by the information commissioner.
  • Provides responses and supporting information required for the collation of replies to Parliamentary Questions, Chief Executive replies and press enquiries.
  • Proactively engages with stakeholders to ensure reporting and analysis continues to meet their needs and continuously make improvements while still managing their expectations.

To be successful in this role you will need the following experience:

  • The ability to handle and analyse large sets of data.
  • Experience of using Power BI Desktop (or other data visualisation tool) and a willingness to work towards becoming a Microsoft Certified Power BI Data Analyst Associate.
  • Experience of performing data analyses and identifying trends and patterns in data.
  • Experienced user of MS Excel, including the use of graphs, formulas and pivot tables.
  • Strong communication skills with good attention to detail, the ability to explain complex information/data in a simple way that can be understood by non-specialists.

Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements:

  • Full time roles consist of 37 hours per week. Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 30 hours per week.
  • Occasional travel to other offices will be required, which may involve overnight stays. This role is suitable for hybrid working, which is a non-contractual arrangement where a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements.
