About us

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is a fascinating place in which to forge your career. Tasked with keeping Britain moving safely and sustainably, we have a significant impact not only on road safety, but also the life moments that can only be enjoyed when people can easily travel to their destinations. As a Driving Examiner you will be at the heart of this mission, as you will help us ensure people get their driving future off to a great start. We are looking for proactive, friendly and safe drivers who would like to train to become fully qualified Driving Examiners.

Training and progression

We will provide all the training you need, to get your career off to an incredible start. Our test centres are grouped into clusters, so you will select a cluster local to you. After a job offer, you will start training online, then undertake practical training at a local test centre. You will receive up to three weeks of guidance at a regional training facility before embarking on a varied career assessing learners seeking to secure their licences.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee seven driving examinations a day, engaging with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Use a tablet to record results and determine whether candidates meet the required standards.
  • Provide clear, constructive feedback, delivering both positive and negative outcomes with tact and diplomacy.

To make the most of this challenge

You will value diversity and inclusivity, maintain exceptional verbal and non-verbal communication, stay calm under pressure, and be a safe driver with a UK or EU driving licence held for at least three years. You must have no more than three penalty points, a solid knowledge of the Highway Code and correct road procedures. You will be friendly, team-spirited and committed to setting high standards for drivers to uphold for years to come.

What you can expect in return

We offer an excellent work-life balance with flexible working options, 25 days of annual leave plus all public holidays and an additional privilege day to mark the King\'s birthday. You will also receive a range of benefits including an employer pension contribution of up to 27%.
