Overview

Driving Examiners help DVSA deliver up to 1.9 million driving tests each year. You will be at the heart of this mission, assisting learners to start their driving journey while upholding high safety and professional standards.

About us

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) aims to keep Britain moving safely and sustainably. We are looking for proactive, friendly and safe drivers who would like to train to become fully qualified Driving Examiners. We provide all necessary training to start and develop your career.

What you can expect in training and development

Test centres are grouped into clusters; you will select a cluster local to you. After a job offer, training begins online, followed by practical training at a local test centre. You will then receive up to three weeks of guidance at a regional training facility before pursuing a rewarding career in which you assess the readiness of drivers seeking to obtain their licences.

Responsibilities

On a day-to-day basis, you will meet people from diverse backgrounds and oversee seven driving examinations per day. You will use a tablet to record results, determine whether learners meet expected standards, and communicate outcomes with tact and diplomacy, delivering both positive and negative feedback as needed.

Requirements

You must hold a UK or EU driving licence for at least three years. You must have no more than three penalty points on your licence and a good knowledge of the Highway Code and road procedures. You should be calm under pressure, respectful of diversity and inclusivity, and have strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills. You should be friendly, team-spirited and committed to setting high standards for drivers.

What you can expect in return

We offer an excellent work-life balance with flexible working options, 25 days of annual leave plus all public holidays and an extra privilege day to mark the King\’s birthday. Additional benefits include an employer pension contribution of up to 27%.

If you are ready to embark on an interesting career where no two days are the same, we would like to hear from you.

Note: This job posting has been cleaned of boilerplate and non-essential content while preserving the core information about responsibilities and qualifications.
