About us The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is a fascinating place in which to forge your career. As a Driving Examiner you will be at the heart of this mission, as you will help us ensure people get their driving future off to a great start. As such, we are looking for proactive, friendly and safe drivers who would like to train to become fully qualified Driving Examiners. We will provide all the training you need, to get your career off to an incredible start Our test centres are grouped into clusters so we will ask you to select a cluster that is local to you. Once a job offer has been made, you will start your training online before undertaking practical training at a local test centre. When this stage is complete, you will have up to three weeks of guidance at one of our regional training facilities before embarking on a fulfilling and varied career in which you will assess the readiness of drivers who are seeking to secure their licences. On a day-to-day basis, you can expect to meet people from all walks of life as you oversee seven driving examinations a day. While many of these customers will be understandably nervous, you\’ll use your exceptional people skills to put them at ease while you talk them through your instructions. Using a tablet to record your results, you will determine whether or not they are meeting the expected standards, and you will have the tact and diplomacy to deliver both positive and negative outcomes. To make the most of this challenge It\’s really important to us that every learner and driving instructor feels respected, so it goes without saying that you will have a deep appreciation for diversity and inclusivity, and this will be underpinned by exceptional verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Calm and unflappable under pressure, you will, of course, be a safe driver who has held a UK or EU driving licence for at least three years. You must also have no more than three penalty points on your licence, and you will have a good knowledge of the highway code and correct road procedures. Crucially, you will be friendly and team-spirited, with a passion for setting standards that drivers will uphold for years to come.
