The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is working with Inspire People to recruit a Lead Enterprise Architect with strong enterprise architecture expertise, strategic roadmap development, governance and large-scale digital transformation capability. Hybrid working with 60% office-based in your designated office in either Bristol, Birmingham, Leeds, Nottingham, Oldham, Newcastle, Swansea or Yeading.
This is a pivotal role within DVSA’s Architecture Management Office where you will lead the enablement of enterprise architecture strategy, influence senior stakeholders across government, and shape digital and business capabilities at scale, driving sustainable, secure and cost-effective technology transformation across services that impact millions of UK citizens.
As Lead Enterprise Architect you will:
- Develop and shape enterprise-wide architecture principles, standards, blueprints, roadmaps and patterns that help DVSA make better technology decisions and deliver business value.
- Work across DVSA’s five whole-service areas, understanding how services, systems and shared technologies connect, and identifying the impact of changes across the wider architecture landscape.
- Translate business needs into clear technology direction, challenging requirements where needed and helping stakeholders understand the best route forward before jumping into solution design.
- Support the development of DVSA’s future-state architecture, including capability roadmaps, technology roadmaps, legacy technology considerations and opportunities to improve how the agency works.
- Contribute to architecture governance and assurance, making sure proposed changes are secure, resilient, available and aligned to architectural principles and strategic direction.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, delivery teams, product managers, business analysts and other architects, using strong communication and influence to explain technical ideas clearly and drive joined-up decisions.
Essential skills for the Lead Enterprise Architect include:
- Demonstrated expertise in establishing and executing enterprise architecture principles, standards, blueprints, roadmaps and patterns that drive business value.
- Extensive experience delivering transformation initiatives involving cloud environments and integrated technology ecosystems.
- Practical experience applying enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g. TOGAF, Zachman) in real-world transformation contexts.
- Strong capability in developing strategic vision and translating complexity into clear, actionable roadmaps.
- Experience delivering architecture governance and assurance.
- Strong strategic thinking and planning capability.
- Robust analytical skills to support evidence-based decision-making.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills at senior level.
Desirable skills for the Lead Enterprise Architect include:
- Degree in a Digital Development and Technology discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Experience with architecture modelling approaches (e.g. Archimate, UML, BPMN).
