Location: Bristol, Leeds, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Nottingham, Oldham, Swansea (This role is suitable for hybrid working)

Salary: £35,663 - A Civil Service Pension with an employer contribution of 28.97%

The post holder will provide portfolio level oversight to all benefits activity within DVSA, ensuring all benefits are captured, collated and regularly tracked to report progress to Directors, Senior Responsible Owners (SROs), Boards and Committees, as appropriate. The post holder will ensure continued development of the maturity of Portfolio Benefits Management, using best practice methodology and exploiting this through the PPM Tool. The post holder will support Project Sponsors and Business Change Managers in the timely completion of Post Implementation Reviews (PIRs). The post holder will be required to undertake wider team activities which may include, but not limited to, risk reporting, PPM Tool use, improvement and reporting, and associated activities such as resourcing and purchase order processing and oversight.

Top Responsibilities

  • Continuously improve and manage a robust Benefit Management monitoring function, working closely with SROs, BCMs and Project and Programme Managers to ensure that benefits are realistic, accepted, tracked and delivered.
  • Ensure that project teams are held to account for the delivery of relevant and up to date information.
  • Act as an independent Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support, advise and guide all staff and stakeholders regarding benefits management.
  • Help to identify and resolve obstacles to realisation.
  • Own and develop the Benefits Management Strategy across DVSA, providing detailed advice and guidance on the process and standards required.
  • Ensure that Programme and Project Business Cases demonstrate what the benefits are and when within the Programme or Project the benefits will be realised to clearly define their benefits within the benefits profile ensuring that the agency can meet its strategic objectives when reporting value for money to the Department.
  • Work closely with Management Accounting, to ensure consistency between the reporting of financial efficiencies and the benefits being claimed by projects and programmes.

About You

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:

  • Experience of benefits management within a high-profile portfolio team.
  • Experienced user of MS Office (Word, Excel, Project, Visio, PowerPoint, PowerBi etc) to produce quality committee/board reports.
  • Experience of using reporting techniques to support decision making (such as dashboards, exception reports, etc).
  • Experience of presenting data and reports to senior managers, directors and stakeholders, encouraging debates and obtaining required approvals as required.
  • Experience with, and an understanding of a Project Management tool.
  • Experience of line management of staff.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to present and explain complex information in simple ways and interact with staff at all levels.
