Salary: £44,241 – the base pay is £44,241. In addition to this the role includes an additional 35% shift allowance.

As a Senior Infrastructure Operations Engineer (SEO), you will provide visible, confident leadership across a 24/7 Operations Centre–led service, bringing together Network Operations Centre (NOC), Security Operations Centre (SOC) and Platforms’ monitoring capability into a single, well-coordinated operational function. You will provide leadership accountability for a shift of up to 8 engineers, setting direction, agreeing priorities and ensuring the safe, timely and effective operation of DVLA’s critical infrastructure and application services. Acting as the senior operational lead on shift, you will balance incident response, routine operational activity and continuous improvement, whilst maintaining clear ownership and control at all times.

- Provide clear, confident leadership for the shift, setting priorities, allocating work and maintaining operational oversight across monitoring, alerting and response activities.
- Unite Operations Centre and Platform capabilities on shift, ensuring engineers work to shared standards, processes and outcomes rather than siloed disciplines.
- Oversee proactive monitoring of infrastructure and applications services, ensuring alerts are meaningful, action oriented and increasingly supported by automation.
- Take senior ownership of incidents on shift, directing investigation and resolution activity, maintaining control of progress and ensuring timely escalation where required.

About You
To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:
- Proven experience of leading technical teams within an IT operations environment, with accountability for service outcomes and team performance.
- The ability to bring together Infrastructure Operations Engineers from different operational disciplines (Operations Centre and Platforms) to build a cohesive and collaborative shift team.
- Strong operational judgement, with experience of overseeing monitoring, alerting and incident response for live, customer-facing services.
- A clear leadership style that sets direction, supports others and maintains focus on priorities, even in high pressure or ambiguous situations.
- Excellent communication skills, enabling you to work effectively with engineers, peers and stakeholders, and to ensure shared understanding and joined up working.
