DVLA are looking for a Senior Cyber Security Consultant to join their Cyber Security Services team. In this role you will provide cyber security consultancy across DVLA’s large IT estate, supporting the secure delivery of systems and digital services used by millions of UK citizens. Flexible, hybrid working (60% Swansea office based) with a salary of up to £58,997 (depending upon assessment) plus a generous Civil Service Pension of 28.97% and other Civil Service benefits.

As a Cyber Security Consultant, you will join the Cyber Security Services team providing cyber security consultancy across DVLA’s IT programmes and services. The role supports both project delivery and business-as-usual activities, ensuring that cyber security risks are identified, assessed and appropriately managed. You will work closely with architects, engineers and delivery teams to review technical designs, assess cyber security risks and ensure security requirements are embedded within systems and services. This role plays a key part in ensuring DVLA continues to deliver secure-by-design digital services, supporting the design and implementation of systems aligned with UK Government security policies and industry best practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide cyber security consultancy and expert advice to IT programmes, projects and operational teams across DVLA.
  • Conduct cyber security risk assessments using agreed methodologies, supporting informed IT and information risk management decisions.
  • Review security-relevant technical documentation such as High Level Designs and Low Level Designs to ensure appropriate security controls are considered.
  • Ensure cyber security requirements are incorporated into technical designs and architectural decisions across DVLA systems and services.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with project stakeholders including senior managers, project managers, engineers and other IT specialists.
  • Contribute to DVLA’s digital transformation programmes by supporting solution evaluation, technology selection and overall security assurance.

About you:

You will be an experienced cyber security professional with problem-solving skills and the ability to assess security risks across technical systems and services. You will be comfortable working in a consultancy-style role, providing expert advice and guidance to project teams and stakeholders to ensure security requirements are considered throughout the delivery of IT solutions.

Essential skills:

  • Solid knowledge of information security frameworks (i.e ISO 27001, NIST) and an understanding of cyber security principles used to secure modern systems and technologies.
  • Strong understanding of risk, risk assessment and risk management techniques.
  • Knowledge of cyber security principles and the challenges associated with securing different technologies.
  • Experience delivering cyber security services within a business or organisational environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical and communication skills with a broad understanding of cloud-based environments.
  • Professional information security certifications such as CISSP, CISM or equivalent.
  • Experience working with government security frameworks such as the Cyber Assessment Framework.
  • Experience working within public sector or large enterprise digital environments.
