The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) is a major organisation whose services reach into every household in the UK and is recognised as a government leader in its drive to embrace the digital age. We are looking to recruit a Senior Infrastructure Engineer EMAS to join our team at Information Technology Services (ITS). An Infrastructure Engineer designs, builds, manages, and supports the infrastructure services that underpin all internal user services and services to the public. Working in a team of infrastructure specialists and engineers, a Senior Infrastructure Engineer builds, administers, supports and maintains solutions as directed and according to departmental policy. In this role you will primarily look after the applications and tooling, whilst managing and monitoring the infrastructure. Collecting data and sharing this with Service Management.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring services are integrated, delivered, and operated as required.
  • Working with and supporting third parties in providing infrastructure services.
  • Working with technical architects to translate architectural designs into operations.

Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 30 hours per week.

This role is suitable for hybrid working, which is a non-contractual arrangement where a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements. The expectation at present is a minimum of 60% of your working time a month will be spent at either your designated workplace (one of the locations cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, in another office/work location. There may be occasions where you are required to attend above the minimum expectation.

Security Check: Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is security check. Government Digital and Data Profession Pay Framework: The role is part of the Government Digital and Data profession and utilises an enhanced Capability-Based Pay Framework which provides access to a Digital and Data allowance. The base pay is £44,241. In addition to this the role includes a Digital and Data allowance of up to £14,552. The value of allowance awarded will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated through the selection process.

Selection process

Stage 1: Sift of CV and personal statement. You must be successful at each stage to progress to the next stage. As part of the application process, you will be asked to complete a CV and personal statement. Further details around what this will entail are listed on the application form. The sift will take place from 27/10/25.

  • A deep understanding and practical experience of ITIL best practices for managing IT Services.
  • Experience in an Infrastructure/application support role - eg. Experience supporting enterprise applications.
  • Experience in automation - deployments, fixes and patching.

Stage 2: Interview. The interviews will take place week commencing 03/11/25. At interview stage, you will be assessed against the following Success Profile elements.

  • Experience - Administering Enterprise Tooling, such as monitoring and ITSM tools
  • Technical - Systems Integration (Skill level: Practitioner), Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution (Skill level: Practitioner) & Ownership and Initiative (Skill level: Working)

This interview will be conducted in person at our DVLA Swansea office (DVLA, Longview Road, Morriston, Swansea, SA67JL). Further details will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.
