  • What you'll be doing

This is a senior engineer role responsible for solving complex transmission and driveline solutions at a component and system level by design and/or analysis methods.

Using your experience to achieve this, you will use high levels of initiative and attention to detail whilst managing yourself and others to tight deadlines.

This will include projects and programmes at DSD but also embedded as part of customer teams and will require the ability to understand customers’ needs and deliver high performance solutions.

Key responsibilities

  • Utilise state of the art simulation techniques and design tools to design, develop and prototype transmission, driveline and actuation systems
  • Help to combine and develop new techniques and analysis methods for use within the company
  • Responsible for the delivery of technical work packages and whole projects
  • Apply your existing experience in specifying materials, processes and design applicable for the function of the components
  • Engineering through design tools, calculations, analysis, simulation, drawings and technical reporting
  • Manage your own and others workload within small to medium sized projects
  • Interpret customer requirements and needs to generate specification and requirement documentation.
  • Generate robust virtual and physical validation plans to ensure designs meet those needs and requirements.
  • Embed seamlessly into customer teams, working to achieve successful outcomes
  • Work across customer functions and suppliers to manage and drive actions, to meet your own objectives
  • Take responsibility for your own continual development
  • Take ownership of proposals/quotes from initiation through submission with the client
  • Support technical capability initiatives within the Mechanical Engineering function
  • Independently and confidently present influential material to peers, customers, and technical forums
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues, clients, stakeholders and contributing to the team ethic
  • Undertake work with a high level of autonomy and communicating effectively throughout the business
  • Acting as a role model for DSD’s values and professional standards
  • Develop your personal reputation with your peers, customers and suppliers as an ambassador of DSD

  • Degree of higher in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Proven experience of transmission and driveline mechanical design and/or analysis
  • Successfully managed and delivered transmission & driveline projects or sub-systems
  • Experience with OEM vehicle programme gateways, DFMEA, DVP and release process preferable
  • Experience of root cause analysis and leading problem solving taskforces preferable
  • Experience with CAD system or Analytical packages
  • Strong leadership and problem solving skills
  • Ability to adapt delivery style to present complex information in an easy to understand manner, tailoring to the audience
  • Flexibility to work at customer locations
  • Awareness of commercial approach of a consultancy business advantageous
