Summary (Major Purpose of the Role):
- To produce jig designs for a wide range of precision welding jigs and assembly equipment.
- Identifying breakages/wear/potential issues with current Jigs, re-designing where necessary to ensure longevity of the jig.
- Suggesting Jig improvements as part of the departments continuous improvement activities.
- Assisting in the development and build of new welding jigs.
- Support production Jig breakdowns/issues.
- Support design team in developing and producing new products.
- Support the production of welded products.
- Keeping up to date with the companies H&S E-learning modules.
- Ensuring correct PPE is used at all times.
- Ensure good housekeeping practices are employed within the department.
- Willing to learn new skills which support the requirement for a multi skilled workforce within the department.
- Any other duties as and when required by management that are reasonably within the capabilities of the person and are aimed at achieving the companys objectives and goals.
Main Activities/Responsibilities:
- All jigs to be designed using department best practice and using standard engineering parts wherever possible.
- DFM Design for Manufacture techniques to be employed.
- Keeping up to date with latest developments in jig component design.
- Reporting any areas of unsafe practice or safety concerns.
- Taking care of workshop equipment and reporting any defects immediately.
- Comfortable working in a small team, assisting colleagues where and when required.
- Providing production support ensuring minimal downtime of equipment.
- Willing to learn and support any new practices and procedures introduced into the department.
Competencies:
- SolidWorks 3D, Jig, Tool & Fixture Design, Microsoft Software, Syspro ERP or similar.
Reporting Relationships and Supervision:
Reporting directly to Engineering & Maintenance Manager
Education and Experience:
- Extensive knowledge of CAD/Jig Design.
- Experience of Engineering fitting and assembly techniques.
- Experience in an Engineering/Manufacturing environment and having spent time working in a production role.
- Experience of welding techniques.
- Reading and understanding Engineering Drawings.
- Effective communicator.
- ONC/HNC/HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
- Toolroom machining experience.
- Experience of using DFM.
- Good understanding of Engineering Workshop techniques.
- Minimum 3 years Mechanical Engineering Design.
- Good understanding of manufacturing techniques used in producing metal fabrications.
