An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Control Systems Engineer to join one of the UK's largest system integration organisations as a permanent member of staff.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- The design, documentation, development, testing and commissioning of PLC based control systems.
- This will cover the complete system development lifecycle from initial design through to customer site acceptance.
- Ensure designs are delivered to the correct quality in accordance with the required contract timescales.
- Investigation and rectification of defects at customers sites.
- Supporting and working with the other engineers to ensure design interfaces are captured.
- Ensuring the design is completed in accordance with company design procedures and safety design requirements.
- Contribute to the establishment and implementation of best practices in software engineering.
- Participate in cross discipline design reviews.
- Approving Software designs for formal issue both internally and externally.
- Attending progress meetings both internally and externally.
- Provide reports on a regular basis.
- Act as a coach and mentor to Software Engineers.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
- Minimum of a HND in a software related engineering discipline or equivalent experience working with software-based control systems.
- Experience of IE61131-3 programming languages.
- Experience of the complete software/systems design lifecycle.
- Working knowledge of P&ID drawings.
- Able to interpret and work with electrical drawings.
- Knowledge of network / serial communications protocols.
- Working knowledge of process control.
- Willing to travel and work away from home including overnight stays.
- The ability to work as part of an established team and provide support.
- The ability to prioritise own workload and work un-supervised when required to meet project deadlines.
- Good communication skills both written and spoken.
- A flexible approach to their working practices.
DESIRABLE SKILLS
- Knowledge of C&I Engineering.
- Knowledge of high-level programming languages.
- Knowledge of National Grid design processes and standards.
