In this role we are seeking a Director of Photography (DoP) in London to lead and execute the visual aspects of all video production across a wide range of locations, from in-studio to on location. This is a specialist role focused on the creative visual leadership, technical excellence, and artistic realization of all video output. It requires in-depth knowledge of all portable and studio video and lighting equipment, including cine and mirrorless cameras, with expert knowledge across both technical and artistic aspects of cinematography.
This role will interact with clients and creative teams, so strong customer service and the ability to articulate a visual vision are a must.
Duties & Responsibilities- Reports directly to the Technical Production Supervisor.
- Acts as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in camera and lighting, providing the creative and technical vision for all video projects from small-scale productions to high-profile projects, including, but not limited to TVCs, social-first content, exec team messaging, working with VIPs and celebrities.
- Advises Creative Producers and Creative Director directly on the visual feasibility, creative execution, and technical requirements of production briefs.
- Responsible for camera operating and directing camera teams for all video and lighting requirements, ensuring peak visual performance and production execution.
- Works closely with editors and colourists for image consistency, continuity and quality to ensure all footage meets the highest standards for all digital and social platforms.
- Technically executes live or recorded content, supporting Creative Producers primarily through expert camera work, lighting design, and colour management.
- Provides technical guidance and mentoring to Camera/Lighting Assistants and other crew members on visual execution and best practice.
- Rigs and de-rigs technical equipment in a safe manner.
- Supports multiple projects at any one time, with various stages of production on a given day.
- Works with the Technical Supervisor and Engineering team to identify technical challenges and ensure continuous development and technical innovation, maintaining the highest visual and production standards.
- Conducts both hands-on and remote workshops with Partners and Creators to provide shooting solutions aimed at DSLR and mobile production.
- Complies with all Health and Safety policies and promotes a positive safety culture in all areas of the studios.
- Transport and setup of video, lighting, and audio equipment as required.
- Inventory management and any other reporting as required by the Technical Production Supervisor.
- Strong portfolio and technical skill-set with proven examples of previous project work demonstrating exceptional visual quality and technical execution across social, corporate and TVC content.
- Strong on-set etiquette with a deep understanding of TVC production hierarchy and expected R&Rs.
- Calm under pressure, solutions-oriented, and a team player.
- A keen eye for design and digital innovation, crafting visually engaging social content.
- An agile mindset, nimble and responsive to the fast-paced world of video content.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, articulating ideas and feedback clearly.
5+ years proven experience as a Director of Photography, Cinematographer, or similar visual specialist role in a content studio, production company or agency environment.
