Location – Ipswich, hybrid 2 days a week in office

About the role:

As a Portfolio Analyst at Drax, your role is to carry out a range of activities to ensure effective management of Drax Energy Solutions (DESL) Power Position. This includes daily position management tasks whilst liaising with colleagues from Drax Power Limited (DPL) looking for opportunities to improve the effectiveness of our wholesale contract trading (both prompt and curve). You’ll also support the wider goals of the Pricing and Hedging team with opportunities to help design, build and manage optimisation models with the intention of creating value for electricity supply customers via their flexibility.

Some key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Operation and management of DESL’s power position which combines our retail contract position with the traded contract position inline with DESLs Hedging Policy
  • Daily near term/day-ahead position management/trading
  • Long Term position management following close contact with the trading activities of the Flex team
  • Liaising with DPL trading team on wholesale market prices and opportunities to better balance the DESL position

Who we’re looking for:

To be successful in this role you’ll need to have:

  • Excellent numeracy skills with particular attention to speed, accuracy and attention to detail
  • A basic knowledge of the UK & European Power Markets
  • Ability to develop models from first principles and sense-check outputs
  • Ability to apply analytical techniques in a sensible pragmatic way and understand their limitations
  • The ability to make quick and concise trading decisions whilst maintaining attention to detail
  • Intermediate/Advanced Excel skills
  • A working knowledge of coding languages such as Python/VBA/SQL
