About the role As Head of Group Environmental Strategy and Compliance Assurance, you’ll lead the development and implementation of Drax Group’s environmental strategy across UK, USA and Canada. This includes setting environmental standards, developing governance frameworks and overseeing compliance assurance programmes. This role requires a robust understanding of operational processes and their associated environmental governance framework, permitting requirements and compliance assurance good practice across the UK, USA and Canada. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to navigate complex environmental regulations and implement effective strategies aligned with local, regional and national standards. Therefore, the role will include some international travel. You’ll provide strategic leadership and expert guidance on environmental matters across the Group, acting as primary advisor on environmental risks, emerging trends and opportunities. The role also includes responsibility for governance and stewardship of key environmental areas such as air quality, emissions, water, and waste. You’ll oversee the development of environmental data systems, management information and reporting frameworks to evidence compliance, inform decision making and drive continual improvements. Who we’re looking for The successful candidate will have a strong background in environmental best practices and compliance assurance, with experience in a senior leadership role. You’ll be proficient in using data and insights to drive decision making and demonstrate a deep and practical understanding of environmental regulation in different jurisdictions. This role requires proven experience in managing regulatory interactions and leading large-scale environmental compliance programmes. Ideally, you’ll have a background in industries such as Power Generation, Oil & Gas, Construction or similar. You’ll be proficient in the collecting, managing and analysing environmental data to support evidence -based decision making and drive improved environmental outcomes. Additionally, you’ll demonstrate strong leadership and stakeholder management skills. This will be coupled with excellent communication and reporting skills, and a proactive strategic mindset with strong attention to detail.
