Drax is looking for a Nature Manager to join our Corporate Sustainability team as we advance our strategic, global nature positive actions.

Reporting to the Head of Nature Positive, the Nature Manager will focus on the delivery of Drax’s Sustainability Framework’s nature commitments and targets, helping us to advance our nature positive ambitions and providing dedicated expertise and resource for nature positive implementation.

You’ll partner with key stakeholders across the organisation embedding understanding of nature positive, develop routine monitoring of nature impacts, and develop standards and policies that embed best practice to enhance and protect nature. As we continue to grow and evolve, this role will play an integral part in delivering our contribution to nature positive as we look to deliver on our ambitious sustainability targets as part of the energy transition!

About the role:

As the Nature Manager, you’ll focus on implementing nature positive commitments for Drax’s activities whilst understanding, informing and acting on global best practice for corporate nature positive action.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Work closely with key internal stakeholders including in the US to support delivery of the group nature targets for Drax operations and value chain.
  • Provide expertise on the tracking of inputs, impacts and outcomes of these projects in relation to the group’s nature positive commitments.
  • Work with key internal stakeholders to educate on and promote nature positive within the company.
  • Track science on the development of nature positive approaches and support the assessment of opportunities for deploying within Drax.
  • Support research related to energy and biomass sourcing and effects on nature, including for example biodiversity, soil, and water quality.
  • Support External Affairs, Government Relations, and Internal Communications on nature positive related communication and engage with external stakeholders.

Who we’re looking for:

To be successful in this role you’ll ideally have…

  • A passion for sustainability, coupled with proven experience in corporate sustainability, environmental sciences or nature fields.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Global Goal for Nature and Nature Positive practice as it relates to the private sector, and to the energy and forest sectors.
  • Knowledge of working forestry practices and independent certification schemes e.g. the Sustainable Biomass Programme, Forest Stewardship Council is advantageous but not required.
  • Proven track record of delivering impact in multi-stakeholder initiatives and partnerships with public and private sector participants.
  • Excellent numerical skills with proven experience handling large data sets, coupled with knowledge of Microsoft Excel or Power BI.
  • Good communication and team-working skills, with the ability to work as part of a global team.
