Drax Altus is delighted to be supporting a UK-focused private equity investor in the appointment of a Portfolio Director with a focus on Value Creation. This is a strategic hire into a well-established platform investing in entrepreneur-led businesses, typically deploying between £8m–£25m of equity per investment.
This newly created position will sit at the heart of the firm’s portfolio strategy, working closely with both investment professionals and management teams to accelerate growth, enhance operational effectiveness, and prepare for exit. The successful candidate will be an experienced operator or investor with a strong toolkit across commercial performance, team development, and board engagement.
THE ROLE
- Partner with portfolio company leadership teams to develop and implement value creation plans, tailored to the specific stage and ambition of each business.
- Support management on topics including commercial strategy, pricing, digital transformation, talent development, and bolt-on M&A.
- Take board observer or representative roles, becoming a trusted adviser to the executive team.
Performance Monitoring & Exit Readiness
- Work alongside investment colleagues to review portfolio performance and progress against strategic milestones.
- Support companies through key value inflection points and exit planning, ensuring data, processes, and leadership are aligned for realisation events.
Platform & Process Development
- Contribute to the development of a systematic value creation framework across the portfolio.
- Create and maintain playbooks, templates, and toolkits to drive consistency and efficiency across engagements.
- Act as an internal bridge between the investment team and portfolio leadership, ensuring best practice is shared and replicated.
THE REQUIREMENTS
- Experience: 10–20 years in a combination of private equity, operational leadership, consulting, or board-level portfolio roles.
- Commercial Insight: Strong understanding of value drivers within lower mid-market businesses. Experience in sectors such as services, consumer, or technology-enabled business models is preferred.
- Board Experience: Comfortable supporting or challenging leadership teams at board level, and experienced in building trusted relationships with CEOs and CFOs.
- Execution Mindset: Practical, hands-on, and outcomes-driven – focused on measurable results, not just theoretical strategy.
- Collaboration: Able to work closely with deal teams in a constructive and supportive way, building alignment around value creation objectives.
