One of the largest fine art auction houses in the South West of England is looking for an experienced Pictures Specialist to join their team. The firm covers Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset. It regularly attracts buyers from around the world who are able to bid online at all of their major sales. The company is committed to the highest standards of ethics, probity and performance and has a long track record for identifying, valuing and selling fine art, antiques and collectables.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, dynamic and ambitious picture specialist to join the team. Previous auction experience and a proven knowledge and expertise of pictures are needed. Responsibilities include:
- Sourcing new business
- Securing consignments
- Valuations
- Cataloguing
- Valuation days
- Condition reports
- Running the successful picture department
Strong organisational and excellent customer service skills are required, combined with an ambition to develop the department. General valuing skills would be a bonus, but not essential. The same applies to auctioneering skills.
Hours: Monday – Friday 9am – 5.15pm, Saturday Mornings on a rota basis – 9am – 12 noon (or 1pm on fine sale weekends), Sunday viewing 2pm – 4pm four times a year.
Holiday: 20 days plus bank holidays and the company usually gives some additional days over the Christmas period.
