An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a very well-regarded provincial auction house and become a key part of the team as they continue to modernise and cultivate their next generation of valuers and cataloguers. Our client is a highly reputable and long-established auction house based in the South West, and they are looking to recruit an experienced general valuer who also has a particularly strong background in valuing and cataloguing pictures.
The role is multi-focused and candidates must be able to demonstrate that they have significant experience in several key areas:
- General Valuations: This role will involve home visits, participation in internal and external valuation events and a regular stream of valuation enquiries via email, telephone and other channels so good general knowledge and excellent customer service skills are essential. The role will also involve time spent in-house cataloguing alongside colleagues. Often the main focus will be pictures, but there will also be an expectation that the candidate should be able to catalogue most types of object consigned to the regular sales.
- Pictures: The company consigns high volumes of pictures – across all categories – and as Head of Pictures the candidate will be responsible for handling the majority of valuations and cataloguing within the department. The company are exploring new ways of carrying out online auctions and so the successful candidate will also have the freedom to be creative in devising and setting up themed online picture sales on a regular basis. Past experience of establishing and running a picture department elsewhere would be very beneficial.
- Business Getting: With the auction industry continuing to evolve and modernise, it is essential that all valuers are looking for new and innovative ways of bringing in business. The successful candidate will be expected to create and chase new leads, follow-up on past and existing clients and to understand the key principles of business to ensure sound judgment when handling consignments.
Also essential: Full UK Driving License and access to own vehicle. The role is based in-person and remote-working will not be considered. The company has recently undergone significant modernisation and management are always looking to utilise the latest technology and online selling techniques. Candidates must therefore be tech-savvy and able to learn and adapt quickly to new IT and back-office systems.
