The Role

We are looking for a commercially minded Finance Business Partner to join our Finance team, supporting key contracts and providing high-quality financial insight to drive business performance. As Finance Business Partner, you will play a critical role in supporting contract performance through financial analysis, reporting, and decision support. You will work closely with contract managers and operational teams to provide meaningful insights into financial performance, ensuring accurate forecasting, cost control, and strong commercial outcomes. This role also involves regular interaction with external stakeholders, including customers such as the UK MOD, and contributes to bids and strategic projects across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Management & Reporting
    • Own and maintain financial models for assigned contracts, ensuring accuracy and integrity
    • Deliver monthly management accounts with clear variance analysis (actual vs budget vs forecast)
    • Develop robust cost-to-complete estimates in collaboration with contract managers
    • Provide insight into cost trends and performance drivers to support decision-making
    • Prepare annual budgets, five-year plans, and reforecasts
    • Support business cashflow planning through regular updates and analysis
    • Reconcile contract-related balance sheet positions and support financial accounting teams
    • Assist with audit requirements and queries relating to contract performance
  • Stakeholder & Commercial Support
    • Work closely with operational, commercial, and finance teams to ensure strong contract performance
    • Build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and external customers
    • Support reporting requirements for customers such as the UK MOD
    • Where applicable, manage reporting timelines and submissions under relevant contract regulations
    • Liaise with external auditors and stakeholders as required
  • Projects & Continuous Improvement
    • Provide financial support to bids, projects, and wider finance initiatives
    • Contribute to continuous improvement across finance processes and systems
    • Challenge existing processes and identify efficiencies
  • General Responsibilities
    • Champion a strong health, safety and compliance culture
    • Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
    • Support wider Finance team activities as required

Experience / skills / qualifications

  • Fully qualified accountant (CIMA / ACCA / ACA)
  • Strong commercial awareness with a proactive, analytical mindset
  • Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills
  • Experience in a business partnering or commercially focused finance role
  • Ability to interpret and present complex financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the confidence to challenge and influence
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
  • Experience working with complex contracts or regulated environments (desirable)
  • Experience working with MOD or defence-related contracts (advantageous but not essential)
