Opportunity for an operationally focused Finance Director to support two recently acquired, high-potential engineering businesses within the Engineering Division of an expanding, acquisitive AIM-listed group.
Reporting to the Managing Directors of both businesses and acting as the principal interface with the Group CFO, you will improve financial visibility, strengthen commercial and operational decision-making, and help shape the next phase of growth.
This is a hands‑on role for a finance leader who is just as comfortable working operationally with project managers and engineers, and strategically with the board.
The Business
Two specialist electrical and engineering businesses delivering installation, maintenance and testing on infrastructure projects across the UK.
Both are growing, with the most recent acquisition being established as a standalone operation following its carve‑out from a major organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner the Managing Directors to drive performance, challenge constructively and support strategic, decision‑making.
- Act as the primary finance contact to the Group CFO, ensuring timely, accurate Group reporting and supporting board and investor requirements.
- Own monthly management reporting, business performance analysis, weekly cash‑flow forecasting and working capital reporting.
- Strengthen reporting, controls, governance, scalable finance processes, management information and operational KPIs across both businesses.
- Translate operational activity into clear commercial insight, supporting pricing, margin improvement and growth initiatives.
- Lead project and contract accounting, including profitability, WIP, cash generation and revenue recognition.
- Work with project managers and engineers to improve project visibility, forecasting and accountability.
- Candidate Profile
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with strong commercial and operational finance experience.
- Ownership and delivery of monthly and year end reporting meeting Group requirements.
- Strong practical experience of long‑term contract and project accounting, including WIP, and revenue recognition.
- A credible business partner who can influence senior stakeholders and work effectively with project and engineering teams.
- Commercially minded and analytical, with a clear focus on improving performance rather than simply reporting results.
- A track record of improving reporting, controls, systems and finance processes in a growing or changing environment.
The Opportunity
This is a high‑profile senior leadership role offering genuine influence across two small, growing engineering businesses backed by a successful listed group.
It combines close partnership with operational leadership, meaningful exposure to the Group CFO and the opportunity to build the finance capability needed for sustainable growth.
