The Art Technician role is to support the effective delivery of the Art curriculum across the prep school site by preparing materials, maintaining equipment, organising resources, and ensuring a safe, well-managed learning environment within the Art department.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Classroom & Curriculum Support
    • Prepare, set up, and clear away materials for art lessons.
    • Assist teaching staff in delivering practical activities where required.
    • Support pupils during lessons on a limited basis under teacher direction.
    • Prepare demonstration materials, examples, and visual displays.
  • Resource Management
    • Organise, store, and maintain art materials, tools, and equipment.
    • Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering supplies.
    • Ensure efficient use of materials and minimise waste.
    • Maintain inventory records where required.
  • Studio & Equipment Maintenance
    • Keep art rooms, prep areas, and storage spaces clean, tidy, and organised.
    • Maintain specialist equipment (e.g. kilns, printing presses, cutting tools) where applicable.
    • Ensure tools and equipment are safe, clean, and in good working order.
  • Health & Safety
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in all art spaces.
    • Safely store hazardous materials (e.g. chemicals, glazes, solvents).
    • Carry out risk assessments where appropriate or support teachers in doing so.
    • Promote safe working practices among pupils.
  • Displays & Exhibitions
    • Assist in mounting and displaying pupils' artwork around the school.
    • Support preparation for exhibitions, open days, or school events.
    • Help curate and maintain attractive and engaging art displays.
  • Administrative Support
    • Assist with general departmental administration as needed.
    • Support with preparation for assessments or projects.
    • Maintain records relating to equipment, maintenance, or orders.
  • Other Duties
    • Participate in relevant training and professional development.
    • Support wider school activities where appropriate.
    • Undertake any reasonable duties as directed by the Head of Art.
