Job Summary
Are you organised, detail-focused, and passionate about delivering high-quality outcomes in the mortgage and protection industry? We are seeking a Mortgage File Checker to join our Compliance team . In this key role, you will assess the suitability and completeness of mortgage and protection advice files to ensure they meet regulatory requirements and internal standards. Your work will directly support a compliant, customer-focused environment and contribute to the firm’s strong culture of transparency, continuous improvement, and Consumer Duty compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Review mortgage and protection advice files to assess compliance with FCA regulations and internal processes.
- Check for suitability, completeness, and clear evidence of good customer outcomes , aligned with the Consumer Duty .
- Maintain accurate records of file assessments, outcomes, and follow-up actions, including MI reporting .
- Provide detailed, constructive feedback to advisers to promote learning and reduce risk.
- Identify recurring quality issues or trends and collaborate with teams to address them.
- Contribute to the delivery of QA training for new joiners and ongoing compliance training for staff.
- Support the Compliance Monitoring Plan and broader oversight activities.
- Liaise with the Risk and Compliance teams to escalate issues and emerging risks.
- Help review and improve file-checking templates, procedures, and QA policies.
- Assist with ad-hoc reviews , including fraud investigations and thematic compliance reviews.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Experience in compliance , quality assurance , or file-checking roles in the mortgage and/or protection industry .
- In-depth knowledge of mortgage advice processes , protection products , and FCA regulations .
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to spot gaps, inconsistencies, or risk indicators.
- Comfortable delivering verbal and written feedback to advisers and managers.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise multiple tasks independently.
Desirable:
- CeMAP or other Level 3 mortgage qualification .
- Experience in a network, directly authorised firm , or financial services platform.
- Awareness of financial crime risks and fraud indicators within mortgage advice files.
