As a member of the Dräger UK & Ireland Engineering function, the Engineering Draughtsperson provides detailed technical drawings and customer-specific project documentation to support the design, manufacture, and delivery of fixed fire and gas detection systems. The role focuses on producing accurate, compliant engineering documentation in line with defined project scope and established engineering standards, working under the guidance of FGDS Systems Engineers and Project Management.

Responsibilities

  • Standards & Technical Compliance: Ensure all drawings and documentation comply with Dräger internal technical standards, customer specifications, and applicable industry or export regulations. Escalate deviations, uncertainties, or scope changes as required. Participate in internal project reviews to support design verification and compliance assurance.
  • Engineering Drawings: Produce high-quality mechanical, small-bore pipework, pneumatic, and electrical engineering drawings using AutoCAD (Mechanical and Electrical) and Creo 3D. Prepare customer-specific drawing packs, system manuals, and supporting documentation for manufacture, installation, commissioning and service activities.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with FGDS Systems Engineers, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Production teams to ensure drawings reflect design intent and are suitable for manufacture. Discuss, record, and implement drawing changes in a controlled manner.
  • Project Documentation & Control: Prepare and submit project documentation in line with client requirements and instructions from the Project Manager or Document Controller. Provide final drawings, system manuals, and supporting technical documentation to customers and Service/Commissioning teams. Maintain accurate document revision control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manufacturing & Build Support: Support manufacturing teams during system builds by providing accurate drawings and responding to technical queries related to fabrication, layout, and assembly. Assist in resolving drawing-related issues identified during production under the guidance of the FGDS Systems Engineer.
  • Continuous Improvement: Document lessons learned, participate in root cause analyses to support design improvements and process efficiencies. Accurately log time and project activities for internal cost tracking, utilisation analysis, and performance measurement. Gather customer feedback and conduct trend analysis to inform future product enhancements.
  • Safety and Risk Management: Maintain high safety standards during field-based activities, using risk assessments and hazard observation practices to identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Systems & Information Management: Ensure effective use of SharePoint and related systems to keep all project drawings and documentation up to date, filed correctly, and traceable in line with project and quality requirements.
  • Leadership and Team Development: Support the development of a high-performance culture within the Solution Centre, working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve departmental goals and personal growth.

Your Qualifications

  • Education/Qualifications: Completion of a modern apprenticeship in Instrumentation, Electrical or related field. HNC / HND in Instrumentation, Electrical or similar discipline. Professionally registered with the Engineering Council (EngTech), or actively working towards registration through an appropriate Professional Engineering Institution (PEI), such as the InstMC, IET, or similar.
  • Some experience in fixed fire & gas detection systems or related industries.
  • Proven background in instrumentation & control engineering, mechanical fabrication, small-bore pipework/pneumatics and electrical design.
  • Experience with SAP, CRM, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Teams, etc.), AutoCAD (or similar) and SharePoint.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD (Mechanical & Electrical) and Creo 3D modelling.
  • Strong IT literacy, including SharePoint/CRM usage and MS Office suite.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail and quality.
  • Effective organisation, prioritisation and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong team player with customer-oriented mindset and clear communication skills.
  • Reliability, adaptability and a continuous improvement attitude.
