Design Management is the process of planning, coordinating and managing design activities to ensure that design information is produced to the right quality, at the right time, and in alignment with programme, scope, cost, safety and assurance requirements. The Apprentice Design Manager role supports the effective delivery of multidisciplinary design across complex infrastructure works at Euston. The role is a coordinating function, working closely with engineering disciplines, consultants, construction teams and stakeholders to ensure design outputs are properly managed, integrated and assured.
The apprentice will follow a work-based, industry-recognised Level 4 apprenticeship programme, combining structured off-the-job learning with practical experience on a major project. This will provide the apprentice with a strong foundation in design management principles, technical assurance, information management and Health, Safety and Wellbeing in Design. The apprentice will be supported by MDJV to dedicate a minimum of 20% of contracted hours per week to formal study, alongside day-to-day learning within the project environment. The role is suited to individuals seeking to start or develop a career within design management, engineering or construction management, and provides a clear pathway for progression within major infrastructure projects.
Upon completion of the apprenticeship, it is expected the candidate will be qualified for roles such as: Graduate Design Manager.
Key Responsibilities:- Design coordination: Supporting the coordination of multidisciplinary design teams to ensure interfaces are identified, managed and resolved.
- Programme and deliverables management: Assisting with the planning, monitoring and tracking of design deliverables against agreed programmes and milestones.
- Technical assurance and quality: Supporting design review, checking and approval processes in accordance with project and client assurance requirements.
- Information management: Assisting in the control, issue and management of design information using agreed systems and common data environments.
- Health, Safety and Wellbeing in Design: Supporting the identification and management of design-related risks and promoting safe, buildable and maintainable design solutions.
- Communication and collaboration: Supporting effective communication between designers, construction teams and stakeholders, including attending meetings and recording actions.
- Quality: Ensures design outputs meet technical, safety and assurance standards.
- Programme: Supports timely delivery of design information to avoid construction delay.
