The Senior Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) Manager is responsible for leading all health, safety and wellbeing activities across the IERRT project, ensuring the highest standards of compliance, leadership and continuous improvement are achieved.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and delivery of the project's Health, Safety & Wellbeing strategy.
- Manage the project HSW team, providing leadership, coaching and professional development.
- Ensure the project complies with all health, safety and wellbeing legislation, client requirements and Dragados management systems.
- Act as the principal HSW adviser to the Project Director and senior leadership team.
- Develop, implement and maintain project‑specific HSW management plans, procedures and safe systems of work.
- Drive a positive health, safety and wellbeing culture through visible leadership, engagement and behavioural safety initiatives.
- Lead project inspections, audits and assurance activities, ensuring findings are addressed and improvements implemented.
- Oversee the investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are completed.
- Monitor project HSW performance, analyse trends and present KPI reports to senior management, the client and Dragados Head Office.
- Lead HSW meetings and represent the project during client, regulatory and stakeholder engagements.
- Ensure high‑quality HSW training, inductions, toolbox talks and awareness campaigns are delivered across the project.
- Promote continuous improvement by sharing lessons learned and implementing best practice.
- Support project planning by ensuring HSW risks are identified and effectively managed throughout all stages of delivery.
- Work collaboratively with construction, engineering, environmental and commercial teams to ensure safe project delivery.
- Champion occupational health and wellbeing initiatives across the workforce.
- Lead by example, promoting the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and safety leadership.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
- Extensive experience leading Health, Safety & Wellbeing on major construction or infrastructure projects.
- Marine, port or heavy civil engineering experience is highly desirable.
- Experience working within or alongside Tier 2 COMAH environments is desirable.
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) preferred; NEBOSH Construction Certificate considered with substantial experience.
- Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) or working towards chartership is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and its application within Design & Build projects.
- Proven experience leading HSW teams and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, leadership and relationship‑building skills.
- Experience leading incident investigations, audits and continuous improvement programmes.
- Strong understanding of behavioural safety, occupational health and wellbeing.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Power BI and document management systems.
