This role is responsible for the on-site delivery of the Curzon St project's environmental strategy. Reporting to the Project Director, the Environmental Manager will lead the implementation of all environmental management activities, ensuring full compliance with legal requirements and corporate standards, including Dragados's ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 certified systems. This role requires active on-site leadership to embed a strong culture of environmental responsibility across the project team, driving the delivery of exemplary standards of performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the project's Environmental and Energy Plans, ensuring alignment with corporate management systems.
  • Work closely with construction, design, and commercial teams to integrate environmental requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Drive a proactive environmental culture across the project, engaging with team members, stakeholders, and the supply chain to promote best practices.
  • Serve as the primary on-site contact for regulatory bodies (e.g., Environment Agency, Local Authorities) and the client's environmental team, fostering positive and effective working relationships.
  • Ensure all personnel understand their environmental responsibilities and promote a "right first time" approach to prevent incidents and non-compliance.
  • Produce clear and accurate environmental performance reports for the project leadership, tracking progress against targets, costs, and forecasts.
  • Manage all environmental documentation, including permits, consents, waste records, and audit findings, ensuring they are consistently maintained and compliant.
  • Lead 'lessons learned' reviews following environmental activities to drive continuous improvement in processes and performance.
  • Collaborate with technical specialists to identify and implement practical, cost-effective mitigation strategies for environmental risks.
  • Oversee the project's compliance assurance processes, ensuring all environmental consents and client requirements are consistently met and evidenced.
  • Develop and deliver targeted environmental training, including site inductions, toolbox talks, and specific briefings.

Technical Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex environmental information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • An expert-level, practical understanding of UK environmental legislation, including the Environment Act 2021 and the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
  • Strong commercial understanding, with experience in project controls and balancing environmental objectives with budget and programme constraints.
  • Experience with NEC contracts is desirable.
  • Excellent organisational, people management, and team-building skills.
  • Proven experience in implementing and maintaining ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 certified management systems on major construction sites.

Qualifications, Certifications and Experience

  • Relevant experience of carbon and BREEAM assessment.
  • Experience of undertaking assessments of the carbon and energy impact of construction projects.
  • Educated to degree or higher level or equivalent in a numerate discipline, typically environmental discipline (or related).
  • Professional membership of an appropriate environmental body (e.g., MIEMA).
  • Appropriate CSCS card type and level.
