Job Summary
The Cost Controller is a key member of the Project Controls team, responsible for overseeing financial aspects of a construction project to ensure costs are controlled and budgets are adhered to.
This role requires a strong understanding of construction processes, financial management, and Earned Value Management (EVM) principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Budget Development and Management: Collaborate with various disciplines to establish, monitor, and update project budgets throughout the project lifecycle.
- Cost and Quantity Tracking and Reporting: Monitor actual quantities and costs against forecast and budgets, identifying variances and reporting findings to relevant stakeholders.
- Earned Value Management (EVM): Implement and maintain EVM systems to measure project performance, integrating cost, schedule, and scope to provide accurate assessments of project health.
- Forecasting: Prepare regular cost and quantity forecasts, highlighting potential overruns and recommending corrective actions.
- Change Management: Review, analyse, and process change orders, ensuring all cost impacts are captured and budget adjustments are made accordingly.
- Financial Reporting: Produce detailed financial reports, including cash flow projections and cost-to-complete analyses for senior management and client reporting.
- Risk Management: Identify cost-related risks and participate in the development of mitigation strategies.
Technical skills and Competencies
- Proven experience in cost control on large (£100m+) construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of Earned Value Management, risk management and cost control and its application in construction.
- Familiar with cost control and project management software (e. g. Primavera, SAP).
- Excellent numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Strong knowledge of integrated project reporting and comfortable with presenting sometimes in high pressure situations. Able to present facts clearly and simply
- Attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
