The Field Quality Engineer will work collaboratively with the Lead Field Quality Engineer, Subcontractors, Delivery and Engineering Teams to ensure site quality arrangements are clear and understood, promote quality awareness, adoption of best practices and facilitate quality inspections, and surveillance to support the progressive management of NCRs and compilation of Lifetime Quality Records (LTQRs), thus ensuring compliance with the quality project requirements. This role is working on the MDJV at Curzon Street in Birmingham.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake rolling surveillance and compliance monitoring of site quality activities in line with the approved Inspection & Test Plans and act as a MDJV key point of contact for advice related to inspection, testing, materials, non-conformance and quality control.
  • Support and deputise for the Lead Field Quality Engineer (LFQE) as required.
  • Liaise with the MDJV Project Quality Lead (QL), Lead Field Quality Engineer (LFQE), Responsible Engineer (RE), Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC), Senior Project and Construction Manager(s) / Project & Construction Managers in all quality control, site materials, construction, inspection, and testing matters.
  • Support the Project Quality Culture of ‘Right First Time, Every Time’ and ‘Observe, Engage, Improve, Quality Observations’ within the Project Team, Consultants and Subcontractors.
  • Assist the QL and LFQE to promote quality awareness among the Project Team, Consultants and Subcontractors.
  • Review subcontractor deliverables (Quality Plans, ITPs, ITRs, MCRs, Samples, Benchmarks and Mock-ups, Calibration Registers etc) to ensure they meet the requirements of the IMS, ISO 9001, and the Subcontractor Works Information.
  • Ensure Inspection and Test Plans contain sufficient detail to address the particular risks associated with the activities, and the evidence required to demonstrate the inspection has been satisfactorily completed and is undertaken by suitably skilled and competent persons.
  • Ensure compliance with the Inspection and Test Process on site.
  • Perform site quality surveillance to a rolling schedule and monitor the collation of listed documents in the ITP and ITRs to ensure they are progressively captured, available in the EDMS and accepted, as required.
  • Ensure non-compliance and defects identified by the team during quality surveillance and inspection are raised, reviewed, escalated, and evidenced as closed within agreed timeframes.
  • Adopt quality management systems, tools and techniques to improve processes and identify root causes of problems.
  • Attend as required, Delivery / Subcontractor / HS2 meetings so that the necessary quality support can be provided.
  • Attend as required, the HS2 NEC Supervisor QA and Technical meetings with the Client.
  • Work with the LFQE to ensure newly onboarded Subcontractors and Delivery personnel are given Quality training i.e., SWI 600, NCR, ITP/ITR, MCR etc.
  • Take part in Lessons Learnt workshops to support continual improvement when required.
  • Provide input into the Mace Dragados quality procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly reports regarding the Quality Performance of the Project Team and Subcontractors: Good Practices, Status of Non-conformances, Trend Analysis, Status of Audits, KPIs, and ITPs as required by the contract.
  • Monitor snagging management with Subcontractors upon completion of the works and arrange joint inspection between MDJV and HS2.
  • Ensure notifications (NOWRIs) are sent out to clients and other stakeholders on their ITP control points.
  • Support the planning, completion, review and monitoring of project quality records and attend weekly meetings to ensure progressive handover.

Qualifications, Certifications and Experience:

  • Experience working as a Quality Engineer or similar role.
  • Hands on experience of quality management (QMS) and inspection and testing practices.
  • In depth understanding of technical documentation (drawings/ specifications / ITPs / RAMS).
  • Familiarity of statistical analysis.
  • CSCS Card.
  • Good Health & Safety Knowledge & Awareness – ideally qualified in H&S related skills.
  • QA Internal Auditor qualified (Ideally) ISO 9001:2015.
