The Burbage Surgery has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Practice Nurse / Research Nurse to join our team. This is a permanent position for 4 days per week (2 days Practice Nurse and 2 days Research Nurse).

We are a friendly and welcoming GP Practice located in Burbage, Leicestershire. We seek an experienced Practice Nurse/Research Nurse to join our team and be a part of a practice that makes a difference, supported by and working with a diverse, multi-skilled professional team of clinical and non-clinical friendly staff, providing high quality, person-centred, nursing care to patients.

This is a dedicated research nursing role purely focused on clinical trials delivery. As the study portfolio grows (DENI-04 now, Amgen activating October, and potentially Roche studies in early 2027) we will need dedicated research nursing capacity to join our current research team.

The successful candidate must be a qualified practice nurse with post-registration experience preferably in General Practice. We will require you to be motivated and enthusiastic with strong communication skills. You will be required to work flexibly as part of our nursing team with a commitment to training and development.

About us: We are a 4 Partner GP practice situated in a purpose-built premises in Burbage providing care to approximately 13,000 patients. We also operate a part-time branch surgery in the village of Wolvey. We have a dedicated team of 4 GP Partners, 3 Salaried doctors, 1 Advanced Nurse Practitioner, 1 Nurse Practitioner, 2 Practice Nurses, 1 HCA, 1 Student Nurse Associate and 2 Clinical Pharmacists. We are also a training practice with GP registrars, Medical Students and Student Nurses. All clinical services are supported by a strong administration and reception team.

Job responsibilities:

  • Assisting and supporting the Doctors and Nurse Specialist as required.
  • To input consultations and patient data accurately on to computer.
  • To participate in audit as requested by the Doctors and Practice Manager.
  • To ensure all enhanced service claims are claimed where appropriate.
  • To attend Branch Surgeries when required.
  • To provide cover for Community Staff if required and maintain a flexible approach.
  • To liaise with all members of the PHCT to ensure that practice objectives are achieved.
  • Undertake home visits if necessary and not covered by Community Staff.
  • Supervise Medical Students and GP Registrars.
  • To offer care and advice to patients on appropriate clinical issues.
  • To organise and run day to day practice nurse clinics covering all aspects of practice nursing and health promotion.
  • To carry out stock control and expiry checks on practice stocked drugs and vaccines.
  • To monitor/replenish all nursing equipment and consumables.
  • To work in an efficient and friendly manner demonstrating respect for patients and colleagues.
  • To attend staff team meetings to ensure personal development is maintained.
  • To undertake training and personal development as recommended by Practice Manager/Doctors.
  • To participate in annual appraisal and discussion on training needs.
  • To provide cover for colleagues during sickness and holidays.
  • To work in accordance with Health & Safety Regulations, Infection Control requirements and Surgery Policies.
  • Any other duties deemed appropriate, which may arise with the development of the Practice.

Person Specification:

  • Understanding of GCP principles and research ethics.
  • Understanding of the informed consent process.
  • Awareness of NHS research governance and HRA approval framework.
  • Knowledge of ICH E6(R3) updates and ISO 14155.
  • Familiarity with MHRA/HRA regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of SystmOne or similar clinical system.
  • Excellent attention to detail with accurate, timely documentation.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Professional and empathetic patient communication.
  • Ability to work independently and use own initiative.
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Experience with eDC/eCRF data entry.
  • Registered Nurse (RGN/RN) with current NMC registration.
  • GCP certification ICH E6 (or willingness to obtain before commencement).
  • Knowledge of needs of patients with long-term conditions.
  • Knowledge of health promotion strategies.
  • Aware of accountability of own role and other roles in a nurse-led service.
  • Awareness of clinical governance issues in primary care.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years post-registration clinical nursing experience.
  • Experience taking and recording clinical observations.
  • Minimum 2 years post-registration experience.
  • At least 1 year recent primary care nursing experience.
  • Involvement in implementing and using protocols and clinical guidelines.
  • Experience of audit.
  • Previous clinical trials experience.
  • Experience with electronic data capture / eCRF systems.
  • Primary care or GP practice experience.
  • Experience in obesity, metabolic, dermatology, or respiratory therapeutic areas.
