The 8 GP partners are seeking an exceptional Business Manager to lead the organisation into its next phase of development. We are a well-established and respected GP training practice, which is high-performing. This is a rare opportunity for a forward-thinking, strategic leader. We are looking for someone who can not only manage financial budgets and support income opportunities, but also drive cultural change, identify efficiencies, enable innovation and empower staff.
You will be a core member of the practice leadership team, working directly with the GP partners and our experienced Practice manager. While experience in primary care or healthcare is welcome, it is not essential. We are particularly interested in candidates with strong people-management and financial backgrounds. This is a senior leadership role suited to a confident, capable business leader with proven qualifications who enjoys complexity, responsibility and the opportunity to shape how an organisation works.
Main duties of the job:
- Providing strong Senior operational leadership across the practice
- Financial Management, budgeting, contracts and income optimisation
- Day to day accounting and invoice processing and monthly bank reconciliation using Xero accounting software
- Year End Accounts production in conjunction with the Practice accountants
- HR, workforce planning, staff development and performance
- Ensuring that the organisation remains compliant with legislation, NHS regulations, CQC standards and governance requirements
- Building effective relationships with other external stakeholders

Key responsibilities:
- Senior operational leadership across the practice
- Line management and development of a large multidisciplinary workforce
- Oversight of HR systems, policies, performance and staff wellbeing
- Financial management, budgeting and forecasting and Year End Accounts production

You will work within an experienced management structure and with a team of experienced Partners who value professional leadership and clear operational governance.
Strategic Leadership:
- Act as a strategic partner to the GP Partners, contributing to practice vision, business planning, and growth strategy.
- Lead development and implementation of practice strategy aligned with clinical priorities and patient outcomes.
- Identify and deliver opportunities for service development and income generation.
- Represent the practice within the PCN and wider health system as required.
- Take responsibility for financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
- Maximise income from core contracts, enhanced services, QOF, PCN funding, and other revenue streams.
- Identify cost‐saving opportunities and implement expenditure controls.
- Ensure robust financial governance and value-for-money procurement.
- Provide regular financial insight and recommendations to GP Partners.
Operational Management:
- Ownership of workforce planning, recruitment, retention, and staff development.
- Ensure compliance with CQC, NHS contractual requirements, employment law, and information governance.
- Monitor performance indicators and implement improvement plans.
- Develop systems and processes to support sustainable growth.
Person Specification:
- Senior management experience in complex service environments
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Management of multi-disciplinary team
- Strong strategic thinking and planning capability
- Demonstrable financial management experience including budgeting, cost control, income generation and use of Xero accounting software
- Commercial awareness with ability to optimise income and manage expenditure
- Understanding of governance, compliance, and risk management
- Previous experience of working within General Practice management
- Knowledge of primary care contracts and funding streams
- HR experience
- Experience of running a monthly payroll process
Qualifications:
- University Degree or equivalent
- HR, Management or leadership qualification
