Overview
In this role you lead the night Hygiene team at the Leyland site, ensuring high hygiene and food safety standards while developing the team. You collaborate with Production, Quality, and Engineering to uphold release-ready cleanliness and drive continuous improvement. You’ll apply hygiene principles and microbiological risk knowledge to identify trends and implement effective corrective actions. This is a hands-on leadership position in a safety-focused, performance-driven culture with a strong emphasis on development and audit readiness. You help shape a resilient hygiene operation in a global, consumer-focused company.

Responsibilities
- Lead, coach and develop the night Hygiene team with accountability and continuous improvement.
- Manage team performance, training and capability development to ensure readiness to succeed.
- Deliver high hygiene and food safety standards across the site with effective cleaning schedules and verification.
- Identify microbiological risk trends, investigate failures and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure safe use of cleaning chemicals and equipment, complying with COSHH, Health & Safety and site procedures.
- Challenge unsafe or ineffective practices and explain the why behind requirements.
- Drive hygiene function improvements through cross-functional collaboration (Production, Quality, Engineering).
- Lead investigations and root cause analysis when standards are not met and support audit readiness and regulatory requirements.
Key requirements
- Proven experience leading, motivating and developing teams in a hygiene/food safety context.
- Strong practical understanding of hygiene in a food manufacturing or controlled environment; knowledge of cleaning principles, microbiological risks, environmental hygiene and verification.
- Understanding of safe management of cleaning chemicals including COSHH, chemical concentrations and safe handling.
- Knowledge of HACCP, food safety standards and BRCGS (advantageous).
- Qualification in Leadership and Management plus Hygiene Management or Food Safety (or equivalent practical experience) with willingness to develop further.
- Proactive, organized, solutions-focused with ability to challenge standards and drive sustainable improvements.
