Tomorrow cant wait lets shape it together!British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for a Scientist - New Science Capabilities and Foresights (FIXED TERM) in SouthamptonWhat are the key objectives and expectations from this role The role will apply a combination of internal and external collaborators to identify and establish new scientific capabilities and scientific foresights across Wellbeing & Stimulation and New Categories. The capabilities will be used to conductin silicoin vitro human studies to screen and evaluate their effects. The primary purpose for conducting these studies is to satisfy BATs duty of care and regulatory obligations ensuring the business produces efficacious products that are backed by science. A secondary purpose is evaluating emerging science and technology this includes identifying business opportunities and threats. The role will involve supervising and gathering scientific insights and foresights opportunities spaces with a view to strengthen short to long-term innovation.What is the direct impact of this role on the team or organizationNovel capabilities will be applied in supporting BATs key strategic pillars in particular the capabilities will contribute to furthering our understanding of our products particularly considering our extensive work on Tobacco Harm Reduction.This role directly delivers BATs core purpose of A Better Tomorrow via the science and technical framework by providing novel methodologies to fully understand our products and reduce the public health impact of our business.Your key responsibilities will include:Supporting the translational science framework by designing and optimizing study protocolsTechnical leadership across categories to deliver new-to-business capabilitiesTranslate technical trends in human effects science and technology into business relevant recommendationsIdentify relevant partnerships that could accelerate BAT strategy in the areas of Tobacco Harm Reduction and Research and Science due diligenceThoroughly reviewing data to advise future studiesStudy Design and executionData interpretation reporting and communicationPublication authorship patent filing and conference presentationWhat are we looking forAgility in science being open to the latest ideas or technologies and adopting innovative approachesUnderstanding of actives in the BAT strategy and methodologies for testing their effects in preclinical or human studies.Understanding of pharmacology and human physiologyProven track record of oral and written communication skills including external presentations and technical reports/ SOPs for internal useLead complex scientific research projectsCritical thinking in data interpretation in order to provide strong conclusions and recommendationsProven skills at scientific communication to technical and non-technical internal and external audiencesMinimally a BSc in a life science or relevant subject.BeneficialExperience in setting up and running scientific studies in particular human studies looking at pharmacological physiological or behavioural endpoints.Experience in working with or validating novel methodologies and technologies from scratch.Proven track record of working across functions with multiple collaborators.Qualifying questions for applicantsHave you had to assess a technical concept to make a recommendation to the business on its potential to be incorporated into the pipelineDo you have knowledge of pharmacology neuroscience physiology and/or behaviorAre you motivated to find novel solutions to scientific questionsHave you conducted data analysis interpretation and scientific report writingDo you enjoy communicating scientific data internally and externally to a wide range of audiencesWhat we offer you We offer a market leading annual performance bonus (subject to eligibility) Our range of benefits varies by country and includes diverse health plans initiatives for work-life balance transportation support and a flexible holiday plan with additional incentives Your journey with us isnt limited by boundaries; its propelled by your aspirations.
