About the Role
The Internal Sales (Product) role is key within the internal sales and technical support team. This role is responsible for providing product expertise and commercial assistance to support our external sales engineers, customers who contact the office directly, and additionally, assist with the development of counter sales at our own trade counter. This role focuses on product specification, preparing quotations, and offering technical guidance to customers and colleagues. The Internal Sales (Product) role will help ensure that DPS provides accurate, efficient, and reliable support for all incoming enquiries, to maintain excellent customer satisfaction and smooth communication between departments. This is an office-based sales role, with no external sales or client site visit requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the external sales engineers with technical product selection, quotation preparation, and follow-up communication.
- Provide technical advice and troubleshooting assistance to customers, ensuring queries are resolved efficiently.
- Assist in the development and daily operation of counter sales, including handling walk-in and phone enquiries.
- Generate quotations and proposals for new and existing customers.
- Process sales orders accurately through the company systems.
- Liaise with suppliers to source materials and equipment when required.
- Liaise with other departments in the company e.g. Service, accounts, contracts and stores.
- Prepare and maintain documents such as quotations, customer orders, purchase orders, PODs, and invoices.
- Maintain clear and timely communication with the Sales Manager regarding workload and progress.
- Undertake regular product and application training to maintain technical competence.
- Carry out other tasks as directed by the Sales Manager in line with company requirements.
- Work in compliance with company policies, including Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
Key Competencies and Skills
- Some level of mechanical/hydraulic engineering knowledge and the ability to apply it to real-world problem solving would be of benefit.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Organised, methodical, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proactive, professional, and customer-focused attitude.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a busy, fast-paced environment.
- Competent IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office; experience with ERP or CRM systems may be advantageous.
- Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and adapt to evolving business needs.
