Based in Guildford, we are part of one of the world’s leading free-to-play PC game companies, with the resources and experience to support ambitious, long-term development. We’re currently building our next big project: a collaboration with a world-renowned name, an epic-scale military sci-fi fantasy, free-to-play game focused on delivering cinematic visual quality and a rich, immersive world. Now in the early stages of pre-production and prototyping, we’re looking for a passionate and skilled VFX Artist to help define the look and feel of key visual effects that enhance gameplay and storytelling.
You’ll play a hands-on role in building high-quality visuals that strike the right balance between creativity and clarity, working closely with the team to bring the world to life in meaningful ways. In this position, you will be working within a multidisciplinary team of developers in a global community, and will have the ability to both share your hard-earned knowledge and continue to develop your skill set by learning from your teammates. Reports to Lead Technical Artist.
What will you do?
- Design, create and implement stunning VFX to enhance the dramatic performance of vehicles and characters and breathe life into our world.
- Collaborate with Animation and Design to support gameplay requirements.
- Work alongside the VFX Team and Art Director to deliver innovation and drive quality.
- Precisely optimize in-game VFX to hit performance metrics finely balanced with visual quality.
- Help design, construct, document and implement new pipelines and processes.
- Help to support off-site development partners.
- Assist with planning within this discipline.
What are we looking for?
- Solid production experience in games, ideally across several shipped titles.
- Strong portfolio of high-quality, real-time in-game VFX.
- Proficiency in 3ds Max or Maya.
- Significant experience with Unreal Engine 4 or 5.
- Strong understanding of particle systems, physics, shaders and post process effects.
- Excellent verbal and written skills, and be able to both take critique and give feedback internally and externally in a professional manner.
- Strong time management and an organized approach to tasks, optimization, and asset handling.
What additional skills will help you stand out?
- Experience with Houdini.
- Traditional art skills (drawing, painting, sculpting, photography).
- Concept skills – Ability to visualize and concept with this discipline.
- BA in art related field or equivalent experience.
- Passion for games and an awareness of current industry trends.
