Overview
In this leadership role, you drive hub performance to meet service, cost, and throughput targets within a fast-paced, 24/7 network. You guide Hub Managers and the Sort Controllers to implement standards, optimise operations, and align with ISO procedures. You shape strategic planning, people development, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver reliable network support and sustainable growth. Responsibilities
- Hold overall strategic planning for the Hubs
- Oversee Transport loading and movements per company policy
- Implement and manage environmental policies and procedures
- Oversee transport procedures and quality procedures
- Plan holidays in line with operational needs
- Operate within and exceed service level targets across networks
- Achieve Hub unit cost targets
- Control costs via budgeting, finance reporting (P&L, productivity), and PO compliance
- Provide support to depot networks through structured reviews and liaison with Operations Support
- Manage Security Policy and security awareness, including searches as required
- Manage recruitment via Hub Operations Managers; liaise with agencies; interview; improve retention
- Develop Hub Operations managers and Sort Controllers through coaching and training
- Manage attendance, reduce lost time, and oversee OJT programmes for new starters
- Communicate company/union information and maintain regular union/employee meetings
Key requirements
- Experience in logistics/distribution with large, fast-paced, 24/7 operations and responsibility for many staff
- Confident communicator and presenter; able to influence strategy and liaise with Directors
- Decisive, effective decision-making in time-pressured environments
- Passion for building and motivating high-performing teams
- Strong problem-solving, resilience, self-motivation and flexibility
