The Programme Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, execution, and overall governance of a portfolio of interdependent programmes, projects and initiatives, ensuring they align with the organisation's overarching strategic objectives and deliver tangible business outcomes. The role focuses on delivering large-scale transformation across the business, managing risks and dependencies across projects, and ensuring successful benefits realisation. In addition, the Programme Manager is expected to drive the commitment to Developing people and delivering what matters for customers and colleagues.
- Programme Strategy and Planning: Define and manage the overall programme structure, ensuring alignment with organisational strategy and investment priorities. Develop and maintain the integrated programme roadmap, key milestones, and critical success factors. Create business cases in conjunction with Business Leads and Finance.
- Design: Oversee the design of end-to-end solutions, ensuring that the proposed operating model approach is robust, scalable, and fully aligned with the future state vision of the business.
- Delivery: Drive the successful end-to-end execution of the programme portfolio, ensuring all projects deliver defined scope, quality, and benefits realisation in line with the integrated programme roadmap and overarching strategic objectives.
- People and Customer Focus: Establish and embed the core principle of Developing people and delivering what matters for customers and colleagues across all programme activities, using this focus to prioritise work and measure success.
- Governance and Reporting: Establish and operate effective programme governance mechanisms, including steering committees and clear decision-making processes. Provide clear, timely, and accurate reporting on programme status, risks, and benefits realisation to the Head of Transformation and executive stakeholders.
- Financial and Resource Management: Manage the overall programme budget, track expenditure, and ensure financial forecasts are accurate. Direct and manage the workload of Project Managers and other dedicated programme resources.
- Risk and Dependency Management: Proactively identify, assess, and manage inter-project dependencies, risks, and issues that could impact the programme's successful delivery. Implement mitigation strategies to maintain programme momentum.
- 3rd Party Management: Oversee and manage all external vendors, contractors, and third-party resources critical to the programme's successful delivery, ensuring performance aligns with contractual agreements and project requirements.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary point of contact for all executive sponsors and key business stakeholders. Partner with stakeholders, manage expectations and communication to ensure alignment and adoption of programme outputs.
- Methodology and Best Practices: Champion best practices in programme and project management methodology across the organisation.
- Team Leadership and Mentorship: Mentor and coach direct reports, including Project Managers, fostering a high-performing, collaborative team environment.
- Transformation Function Development: Contribute to the continuous improvement of the transformation function's processes, tools, and capability.
- Compliance and Policy Adherence: Ensure all programme activities comply with regulatory requirements and internal policy standards. Maintain training records for all employees. Provide adequate and competent supervision to maintain a safe working environment. Work in collaboration with all business units to meet Health & Safety objectives. Record all work related accidents, incidents, ill health and hazards in accordance with company policies and procedures. Assist in investigating accidents and incidents within the workplace. Co-operate with periodic inspections and audits of the workplace and/or equipment in accordance with legislation and the H&S management system.
