Job Description

Purpose of Position

To manage the day to day running of the Company Workshops, including compliance with legislation, health and safety, budgetary control, productivity control and management of workshop employees. This may involve liaising with suppliers, insurance companies and government bodies etc.

Key Task & Responsibilities

  • Cost effective control of workshop resources including responsibility for production, and implementation of workshop financial plans.
  • Improving workshop productivity by evaluating and setting maintenance standards and using training to improve workshop skill levels.
  • Maintaining and improving workshop quality standards, to meet all current and new legislation.
  • Responsibility for workshop Health and Safety issues, including workshop staff and visitors.
  • Strategic planning for the workshop function, including development of existing and new workshops.
  • Day to Day Management of workshop staff.
  • Responsible for ensuring all company environmental policies and procedures are implemented and managed to a high standard.
  • To manage manpower planning, including recruitment, absence and holiday management.
  • To manage absence through use of the Absence Management Procedures.
  • To investigate and carry out disciplinary and grievance hearings in accordance with Company Procedures.
  • To effectively manage employers through communication, appraisals and training.
  • To provide leadership and direction of workshop employees.
  • To communicate company information to all relevant employees.
  • To effectively manage staff morale, productivity and quality standards.
  • To effectively manage the maintenance/repair of Transport vehicles throughout their life, and ensure minimum downtime of the tractor and trailer fleet.
  • To effectively manage outside contractors with regard to quality of repairs and cost.
  • To monitor breakdown performance against workshop quality standards.
  • To manage tyre suppliers with regard to GeoPost standards, and cost effectiveness.
  • To maintain a high level of company/customer satisfaction with regard to Fleet Maintenance.

Qualifications

What we’re looking for:

  • You will need previous experience in a fast paced Vehicle Maintenance environment, where fleet availability and quality of maintenance are foremost in the mind.
  • We need a natural people leader- with experience of personnel management across the board; from recruitment to appraisals, disciplinaries to development, and everything in between.
  • You will need to have a demonstrable understanding of the finances of running a complex department and team, and therefore be able to run your operation in the most cost effective manner and make savings where possible (i.e. reduction of subcontracted work).
  • You will be a confident communicator and able to influence at all levels through both verbal and written communications. This includes both internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • We want someone that really enjoys resolving problems and demonstrates high levels of resilience, self-motivation and flexibility.
  • It would be beneficial to have a high standard of computer literacy with a thorough knowledge of the Microsoft Office or Google Suite.
