Job Description

Purpose of Position

To achieve the Hub objectives in terms of service to Network, cost, productivity and throughput through effective management of employees, maintenance of company operating standards and ISO operating procedures.

Through effective strategic leadership, motivation and direction of the Hub Managers, Hub Operations Managers and Sort Controller team.

  • Strategic

To hold overall responsibility for strategic planning for the Hubs.

  • Operational
  • To hold overall responsibility for Transport loading and movements in line with company policy.

Responsible for ensuring all company environmental policies and procedures are implemented and managed to a high standard.

  • To hold overall responsibility for transport procedures.
  • To hold overall responsibility for quality procedures.
  • To hold overall responsibility for holiday planning, in line with operational requirements.
  • To operate within, and exceed, company set service levels for all networks.
  • To achieve Hub unit cost.
  • Financial
  • To control cost through planning and review of finance reporting procedures – use of P & L and productivity statistics.
  • To ensure compliance with Finance procedures, including Purchase Order system.
  • To provide appropriate input into annual and period planning.
  • To authorise expenditure for operational needs to maintain service levels whilst controlling discretionary spend within guidelines.

Service

  • To provide and improve support to the depot networks through structured reviews, depots visits, liaison with Operations Support and other relevant departments.

Security

  • To overall responsibility for a Security Policy, facilitating security awareness and actioning vehicle and personnel searches in line with the policy.

Human Resources

  • To control recruitment, through management of Hub Operations Managers who will liaise with agencies, advertise and interview.
  • To manage and improve employee retention.
  • To investigate and carry out disciplinary, grievance and appeal hearings in accordance with company procedures.
  • To effectively manage Hub employees through communication, appraisals and training.
  • To develop Hub Operations managers and Sort Controllers through communication, appraisals, training and individual development and coaching.
  • To manage absence, leading to a reduction in lost time through absence and sick pay costs.
  • To manage On Job Trainer programme (OJT’s), ensuring new starters receive appropriate training.
  • To communicate company/union information to a relevant employees. To carry out regular meetings with union/employee representatives.

Qualifications

  • You’ll know the logistics or distribution industry and have experience of running large, fast paced, 24/7 operations with responsibility for a significant number of staff
  • You will be a confident communicator/presenter with the skills to lead and manage teams as well as influence strategy and liaise with our Directors
  • A person capable of decisive and effective decision-making, in a time pressured environment
  • A passion for building and motivating high-performing teams
  • Someone that really enjoys resolving problems and demonstrates high levels of resilience, self-motivation and flexibility.

You will have a comprehensive induction to DPD, this will include both a corporate induction followed by a thorough induction of our Network Operation.

Our Hubs operate over night so working nights is essential for this role, There may also at busy times be a requirement to work weekends.

A full UK driving licence is essential.
