Contract: Permanent, 40 Hours Per Week

Hourly Rate: £17.91ph - Overtime paid at enhanced rate

Location: DPD Dagenham, Unit 2, Orion Park, Messina Way, Dagenham, RM9 6FF

We are currently recruiting for an experienced and dedicated Class 1 Shunter for our night shift operations.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Safely and efficiently moving trailers and tugs through the confines of the yard, adhering to all site speed limits and traffic management systems
  • Conducting thorough pre-use checks on all vehicles and equipment before commencing work
  • Strictly adhering to yard Health and Safety procedures and regulations at all times, including wearing appropriate PPE
  • Promptly reporting any damage seen or that may have occurred during movements of trailers to the shift supervisor
  • Maintaining accurate logs of all vehicle movements and activities throughout the shift
  • Assisting in the organisation and optimisation of trailer placement within the yard to maximise efficiency
  • Collaborating effectively with warehouse staff and drivers to ensure smooth loading and unloading operations
  • Participating in regular safety briefings and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Occasional delivery duties, including local runs as required
  • Supporting warehouse operations during quieter periods, such as assisting with inventory checks or general tidying
  • Ensuring the yard is kept clean, tidy, and free from obstacles that could impede operations
  • Remaining vigilant and reporting any security concerns or unauthorised personnel in the yard area

Qualifications:

  • The ability to work efficiently within a fast-paced and pressured environment to ensure that our yard operation runs as smoothly as possible
  • Experience in a similar position, preferably with night shift operations
  • Hold a Class 1 LGV Licence (C + E)
  • A current driver CPC card
  • Continuously demonstrating the core DPD DNA values of Passion, Respect, Honesty, Flexibility, Caring, and Accountability in all aspects of your work
  • Excellent spatial awareness and manoeuvring skills in confined spaces
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations in a logistics environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team during night shifts
  • Good physical fitness to handle the demands of the role
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Flexibility to work varying shift patterns, including weekends and bank holidays as required
  • Basic computer skills for logging and reporting purposes
  • A proactive approach to identifying and solving problems in the yard
  • Willingness to undertake additional training and development as needed
