Job Description

The UK Accounts Assistant will play a key role in supporting DP World’s financial operations, with a particular focus on fixed assets and tax compliance across our London Gateway and Southampton sites. This is a fast-paced, collaborative environment, and the successful candidate will be a proactive, detail-oriented contributor with strong analytical and organisational skills.

Location: Essex OR Southampton, with occasional travel to the opposing site

Hours: Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours per week

Contract: 6-Month Fixed-Term Contract

Fixed Assets

  • Reconcile Construction in Progress costs in Oracle to enable asset transfer.
  • Assist with creation, revaluation, and disposal of fixed assets in Oracle.
  • Reconcile monthly fixed asset reports and update asset records with serial numbers and capital allowance references.
  • Calculate monthly depreciation and review capital expenditure requisitions.
  • Support fixed asset audits and tax-related queries.
  • Participate in periodic fixed asset counts.

Taxation

  • Prepare and reconcile monthly VAT returns for London Gateway Port and Park.
  • Submit VAT and CIS returns on time and ensure tax payments are made before due dates.
  • Compile and remit CIS deduction statements and reconcile IR35 obligations.
  • Support HMRC queries and assist with the annual PAYE settlement agreement.

Other Responsibilities

  • Collate and submit capital expenditure reports to the Office of National Statistics.
  • Administer staff company credit cards, ensuring compliance and accurate VAT reclaims.
  • Reconcile charity and social committee accounts monthly.
  • Support internal and external audits and respond to queries in a timely manner.
  • Attend and support the annual company charity quiz event.
  • Perform other ad hoc financial reporting duties as required.
  • Travel between London Gateway and Southampton as needed.
  • This is a full-time, on-site role.

What You Will Bring

Qualifications

  • Minimum AAT qualified.
  • Strong academic background.

Experience

  • Demonstrable experience in fixed asset accounting.
  • Oracle Fusion knowledge preferred.

Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage workload fluctuations.
  • Understanding of VAT and CIS essential.
  • Knowledge of Power BI is an advantage.
  • Strong grasp of double-entry bookkeeping and fixed asset accounting.
