We are recruiting for a Breakdown Team Leader to join our fast paced and growing Engineering department based at the London Gateway Port in Stanford le Hope, Essex. This role is responsible for the running of the shift breakdown team along with the supervision of the respective breakdown team technicians, including distribution of work and responsiveness to breakdowns across each asset based across the port.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the management and leadership of an engaged team, promoting collaboration and ensuring that each is developed and evaluated against goals and objectives which are aligned, specific, measurable, attainable yet challenging, realistic and time bound.
- Lead, motivate, and mentor maintenance engineers/technicians, including managing performance, sickness absence, labour scheduling, coaching, and conducting toolbox talks.
- Ensure rapid response to equipment failures, organizing resources and technicians to repair machinery effectively.
- Works closely with Operations to manage downtime expectations.
- Enforce Health, Safety and Environmental regulations, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTOTO) procedures and all relevant policies.
- Works closely with Engineering Asset teams to ensure machinery compliance and availability levels are achieved.
- Assess and prioritize maintenance requests based on risk, safety, and production impact.
- Identify recurring failures to improve long-term equipment reliability.
- Provides support for Technical Planning team in the event of labour shortage.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- National Qualifications Framework – Minimum Level 3 Qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds etc).
- Has excellent knowledge of equipment maintenance and engineering activities.
- Strong leadership qualities combined with excellent communication skills.
- Prior leadership experience within a fast paced engineering environment (ideally heavy plant).
- Ability to work with resilience and positivity under pressure and in a fast-paced changeable environment.
- Experience and knowledge of HSE regulations related to equipment maintenance and activities.
Eligibility & Conditions
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- A full valid UK driving licence or appropriate international licence allowing you to drive on UK roads.
- No unspent criminal convictions.
- Due to manufacturing guidance and safety weight limits, our safety critical roles require an individual to weigh under 130kg.
