About the Role

An excellent opportunity has opened within our Operations Team – Reefer Controller Responsibilities Location: Southampton.
Responsibilities:
- Connect and disconnect reefer containers in a safe and timely manner, following Safe Systems of Work.
- Monitor container temperatures accurately and maintain all associated digital records.
- Report temperature discrepancies, defects and reefer failures promptly in line with company procedures.
- Raise any operational concerns quickly to the line manager and/or yard strategist, contributing constructively to solutions.
- Provide operational assistance to the Control team when required, including stepping into the controller role.
- Check all unused couplings are correctly retracted and tidy any that are not.
- Ensure fire extinguishers are correctly located and have not been discharged.
- Check personnel protection and hazard signs are in place and clearly legible.
- Maintain general cleanliness of plant areas, removing debris and potential trip hazards.
- Undertake any training courses as advised by the company.
- Ensure a safe and healthy working environment by adhering to all health, safety and environmental policies and legislation.
- Carry out any additional ad-hoc duties assigned by the line manager.
- Take responsibility for personal development and support the development of others.
What you will bring:
- An acceptable standard of literacy and numeracy is required, ideally demonstrated by 4 GCSEs or equivalent qualifications.
- Although training will be provided, experience and competence in using the DPWS Terminal Operating System is desirable.
- A basic understanding of Microsoft 365 applications would be an advantage.
- An understanding of operational and safety working practices and processes is desirable, although full training will be given.
- Applicants will benefit from having a working knowledge of the terminal layout and relevant Safe System of Work procedures.
- A full UK driving licence is required, as travel to reefer points across the Terminal and driving on dock roads outside DPWS will be necessary.
- A sound understanding of operational activities, including Safe Working Practices, is beneficial.
