Description

DP World are recruiting for an experienced and technically skilled Engineering Technician to join our Engineering team in Southampton.

This role is responsible for carrying out planned maintenance, fault finding, and repairs across a wide range of port equipment and infrastructure, ensuring assets remain safe, reliable, and operational.

The successful candidate will work across multiple asset types and operational areas, using their mechanical and/or electrical expertise to support a fast-paced port environment.

  • How you will contribute
  • Carry out planned preventative and corrective maintenance across a range of port equipment, including cranes, straddle carriers, reach stackers, trailers, and terminal infrastructure.
  • Diagnose faults and complete effective repairs to minimise equipment downtime and support operational performance.
  • Maintain and inspect equipment including reefer points, power distribution systems, barriers, lighting, generators, and other site infrastructure.
  • Work across different workshops, asset groups, and operational areas in line with business requirements.
  • Apply mechanical and/or electrical expertise across a range of systems, including hydraulic, pneumatic, control, and PLC-based equipment where competent.
  • Interpret technical drawings, manuals, and maintenance documentation to support fault finding and repairs.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and support the wider Engineering team to maintain operational continuity.
  • Record defects, maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs accurately using company maintenance systems.
  • Work safely in accordance with company procedures, including permit-to-work, safe isolation, PPE, and environmental requirements.
  • Operate authorised plant and equipment where trained and competent, including supporting maintenance activities in challenging environments such as working at height or in confined spaces.
  • Support engineering projects and continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability and maintenance performance.
  • Share technical knowledge with colleagues and support the development of apprentices and junior technicians through coaching and guidance.
  • What you will bring
  • Recognised apprenticeship or qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, such as NVQ, City & Guilds, BTEC, or equivalent.
  • Previous experience maintaining heavy plant, industrial equipment, port equipment, or infrastructure systems.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills across mechanical and/or electrical systems.
  • Experience working within safety-critical or industrial environments.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a wider Engineering team.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise maintenance activities.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach, with the ability to work across different asset types and operational areas.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality maintenance work.
  • IT literate with experience using maintenance management systems.
  • Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, control, PLC, or high/low-voltage systems would be advantageous.
  • Act as an ambassador for DP World at all times, promoting high standards of safety, professionalism, and teamwork.
