We are offering an opportunity for a Remote Operating System Operative to join our team in Stanford-Le-Hope. The role operates Automated Stacking Cranes (ASCs) via remote control consoles, supported by cameras and video equipment, to maintain an efficient ASC operation and meet customer service KPIs in line with company standards, policies, and procedures.
This role follows a 12-hour day and night shift on a 4 on/4 off pattern, covering both weekdays and weekends.
Responsibilities
- Remotely operate ASCs from an office when automated mode is not available, including loading containers on trucks and terminal chassis on landside interchange zones; unloading containers from trucks and terminal chassis on landside interchange zones; driving to or from the maintenance position; performing remote picking and grounding operations in automatic mode; and checking the height of container stacks and container IDs.
- Remotely operate ASCs during the final landing phase of containers onto vehicles when required.
- Use terminal operating systems and monitor shipside and landside operations.
- Work closely with other operational staff to meet port requirements.
- Communicate via voice radio, answer incoming calls from operators and others, and resolve problems accurately and promptly.
- Be fully flexible in the duties carried out within the Control Room.
- Have a thorough knowledge of the company’s operating procedures for Control and Terminal.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Minimum educational level: GCSE Maths & English Grade C or equivalent.
- Tertiary educational level or military training is an advantage.
- Experience within a similar role or operating an RC desk is preferred.
- Experience in an operational, industrial, or port-industry related role.
- Demonstrable experience dealing with external customers either face-to-face or over the phone is essential.
- Good IT skills with experience using systems and all Microsoft applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; experience with radio communications is advantageous.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work under sustained pressure.
- Good organisational skills with attention to detail.
- Can-do attitude with willingness to learn and develop within the role.
- Ability to maintain high levels of concentration at all times.
- Flexibility to work additional hours when necessary.
