A fantastic opportunity is currently available for a Goods Inwards and Quality Inspection Officer to join our team based at London Gateway in Stanford le Hope, Essex. This position works within the Engineering department and is responsible for the accurate and timely receipt, unloading, checking, and receipting of all goods and services within the warehouse and assigned areas of responsibility.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Receive goods into Stores, checking quality, quantity, part numbers, and specifications against purchase requirements prior to receipt.
- Unload deliveries, ensuring items are directed to the correct location and redirecting where necessary.
- Actively contribute to warehouse organisation, including the appropriate location and relocation of goods, and maintaining high housekeeping standards.
- Support the effective movement of materials across the site and to/from suppliers, maintaining accurate stock records through regular stocktaking and updates within the asset management system.
- Work collaboratively with Stores and Procurement teams to manage returns and warranty claims.
- Identify, label, and locate parts in the correct stock locations, placing non-conforming items into quarantine until issues are resolved.
- Enter accurate receipt and stock data into group systems, including barcoding of major stock items and new parts where required.
- Notify relevant departments and requisition creators of the arrival and receipt of goods via email and/or telephone to support timely issue.
- Pack and dispatch goods accurately and safely in accordance with company procedures.
- Carry out stocktaking activities as required, including reconciliation, repair processes, and completion of sign-off documentation.
- Maintain the integrity, security, traceability, and cleanliness of stock at all times, in line with company, ISO, and audit requirements.
- Support the wider Stores team in maintaining valid test certification for tools, lifting equipment, and rotating assets, including system logging, certificate attachment, and asset identification/stamping.
- Ensure all COSHH, stock, and asset registers are accurate and up to date where applicable.
- Comply fully with all company health, safety, and environmental policies, helping to ensure a safe and compliant working environment and adherence to relevant legislation.
Experience & Qualifications
- Previous experience within a busy goods-inwards department or stores environment is essential.
- Forklift licence (all types) desirable, or willingness to work towards certification.
- Previous experience working in a fast-paced warehouse, stores, or goods-in environment.
- Experience handling a wide range of stock items, including engineering, electrical, or safety-critical components, is desirable.
- Experience working within ISO-controlled environments (e.g. ISO 45001) preferred.
- Practical experience of stock control, goods receipt, dispatch, and stocktaking.
- Experience using computerised stock or maintenance systems (e.g. EAMS / CMMS / Maximo) desirable.
- Knowledge and practical application of health & safety and COSHH regulations desirable.
- A full UK driving licence is essential.
