We are currently recruiting for a Electrical / Mechanical Technician to work at our Southampton Port location to perform engineering project maintenance activities, as assigned by the Engineering Workshop Manager, in accordance with the Company standards, policies and procedures. This could include a variety of electrical and/or mechanical maintenance/repair works (although expectation this will be more electrically biased (60/40 - 70/30) on straddle carriers, tractors, Quay Cranes, Crane Spreaders, Man Carrying Cages, Terminal Trailers, including Mafi Trailers & all equipment trailers, vehicle barriers and CCTV.
About The Role
How will you contribute:
- Mechanical and electrical maintenance and repair of heavy industry assets across the Port.
- Record position and stock number tested items in line with Docks Regulations and British Standards Statutory Regulations.
- Carry out repair duties in a safe and environmentally friendly manner, report any deficiencies to management.
- Electrical - Be conversant with drive and control systems of Cranes, Diesel Electric, Diesel Hydraulic Drives of Terminal Equipment and Spreaders and understand all of the associated software packages.
- Be conversant with working with voltages from 6 v – 500 v Plus.
- Electrical - Work on terminal electrical systems i.e. High mast lighting, reefers, and cranes if required etc.
- Mechanical - Be conversant with all hydraulic systems based on Straddle Carriers, cranes and spreaders.
- Undertake on the job training and residential courses as required to best of ability as required by Engineering Project Manager.
- Undertake mechanical / electrical projects as required under the supervision of the Engineering Project Manager.
- Comply with DP World Southampton company safety policy and wear all provided P.P.E. at all times.
- Ensure that a safe and healthy work environment exists, by adhering to company health, safety and environment policies, to achieve full compliance with the relevant legislation.
- In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the jobholder is required to perform other duties assigned to him from time to time.
What will you Bring
- Minimum level 2 Engineering Qualification with substantive experience or level 3 Apprenticeship gained qualification with experience considered.
- Electrically biased background ideally with a mixture of facilities/building maintenance and heavy plant maintenance experience.
- Experience of heavy industry engineering – electrical, mechanical or both.
- Reasonable level of numeracy and literacy.
- Understanding and appreciation of equipment functionality and service requirements.
- Must be able to follow and understand electrical / hydraulic / mechanical drawings.
- Strong Health and Safety understanding at work.
- Mechanical knowledge working with pneumatics and hydraulics, diesel engines and general heavy fitting.
- Welding and Fabrication experience would be beneficial (not essential).
