We’re looking for a confident, strategic and relationship‑focused Commercial Manager – Sports Events to help drive and shape the commercial direction of the HotelPlanner Tour and its tournaments. The European Tour group administers golf’s global Tour - the DP World Tour - the HotelPlanner Tour and the Staysure Legends Tour, as well as golf’s greatest team contest, the Ryder Cup.
About The Role
As Commercial Manager, you’ll support the commercial performance of a portfolio of HotelPlanner Tour tournaments, acting as the primary commercial partner to third‑party event promoters. You’ll build strong relationships, shape commercial strategies, and drive revenue growth and operational consistency across the Tour. You’ll also lead the development and delivery of the commercial framework for HotelPlanner Tour owned tournaments, working closely with internal partnerships teams to strengthen product development, sales planning and long‑term financial sustainability. This is a highly collaborative role with wide organisational impact, partnering with Strategy, Partnerships, Finance, Legal and Operations teams to ensure each tournament aligns with broader Group objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial Strategy & Performance: Support the commercial performance of an allocated portfolio of HotelPlanner Tour tournaments. Develop and embed tailored commercial strategies and sales structures to support individual event business plans. Lead the commercial strategy for HotelPlanner Tour owned tournaments, maximising revenue opportunities.
- Stakeholder & Promoter Management: Act as the centre of expertise and primary commercial contact for third‑party promoters. Build and maintain strong promoter relationships, sharing best practice to improve commercial outcomes and operational standards. Manage inbound commercial enquiries and oversee external commercial agencies where required.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Partner with Strategy, Partnerships (Sales & Management), Finance, Legal and Operations to ensure tournament plans meet commercial, governance and brand requirements. Provide commercial input into tournament budgets and long‑term financial planning.
- Process & Project Leadership: Contribute to the evolution of the HotelPlanner Tour’s Tournament Business function, improving processes and promoter onboarding. Lead or support strategic projects that strengthen the Tour’s commercial sustainability.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent working experience.
- 6–8 years’ experience in sports marketing, commercial management, business development or event management.
- Strong commercial acumen with a track record of driving revenue growth.
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
- Confident, proactive and able to build strong internal and external relationships.
- Comfortable working across multiple markets and cultures.
- Experience working with international teams is essential.
- Willingness to travel extensively throughout the year.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in another language is an advantage.
